Florida Atlantic's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, in partnership with The Island School’s Cape Eleuthera Instituteand supported by Chef José Andrés' Longer Tables Fund, has announced that the Queen Conch Mobile Lab is now fully operational following the arrival of the first queen conch egg masses and the very first hatch in the new system.

Established in February, the Queen Conch Mobile Lab is designed to produce up to 2,000 juvenile queen conch annually for conservation and restoration across the region.

Florida Atlantic University has received a $1 million gift from the Levine Family Foundation to establish the Michael R. Levine AI-Enabled Hands-On Engineering Lab at the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The lab will offer students practical artificial intelligence experiences, with a focus on real-world challenges, applied learning and career readiness.

Earlier this month, the Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University held its largest commencement ceremony in history with 79 graduates. The ceremony marked their transition into the nation’s newest physicians and also recognized 19 graduates of the biomedical sciences master’s program.

Florida Atlantic University’s Leon Charney Diplomacy Program received the Distinguished Delegation Award at the recent National Model United Nations in New York City. There were 235 schools that participated in the event.

Last week, Florida Atlantic University conferred a record-number 4,347 degrees over the course of eight commencement ceremonies. The spring graduates joined more than 223,000 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the university opened its doors in 1964.

Highlights of the 2026 spring commencement include:

•96 degree recipients over the age of 50, and 16 over the age of 60.

•The oldest graduate is 69 and the youngest is 17.

•Of the 4,347 graduates, 521 were first-generation students; 219 graduated with a 4.0 GPA; and 88 countries were represented.

•12 FAU High School students were awarded a bachelor’s degree before receiving their high school diploma.

A.D. Henderson & FAU High School are among just six schools nationwide to be selected as “School of the Year” as part of the 2026 Discovery Education Awards.

The FAU Lab Schools were honored for its vertically aligned, inquiry-based STEM instruction, as well as its nationally recognized research and applied learning model. As a public K-12 laboratory school district, the schools integrate rigorous academics with authentic research experiences, hands-on laboratory learning and interdisciplinary instruction beginning in the earliest grades.
