College of Science Spotlight: Nicole Acosta
Nicole Acosta is a Ph.D. student in Experimental Psychology at FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, where she focuses on infant and child development.
She contributes to NIMH-funded clinical research under Nancy A. Jones, Ph.D., examining early manifestations of psychopathology in preschool-aged children through assessments and work with mothers, in collaboration with Washington State University and Virginia Tech.
Her M.A. thesis, "Digital Beginnings: Exploring the Impact of Screen Exposure on Internalizing Behaviors During Toddlerhood", explored developmental effects of screen exposure. Acosta is also passionate about teaching and aspires to a career in academia and family-centered community work.

College of Science Spotlight: Nick Meyl 🌟
Nick Meyl, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) student in the Schmidt College of Science, won first place at the 2026 Future of Florida (FOF) Summit, held at the University of Florida. Competing with 70 students from across the state, Meyl and his teammate Anna Fortenberry developed the project “Safe Housing Incentives & Expedited Land Development Act (SHIELD),” addressing Florida’s growth, infrastructure, and sustainability challenges.
