Slate is in need of a place for stay from
September 28th to October 20th while his foster mom is moving.

Slate is an adorable Husky who loves splashing in kiddie pools, well any pool, enjoys playtime, and is also content relaxing at home while you work.

Slate's ideal home:
🤍 no small animals due to husky prey drive
🤍 A patient environment where he can settle in at his own pace.

MILO 🐾

(Formerly known as Duncan and he is Ricky’s brother)

Milo has been returned due to family circumstances.

This is what his adopter had to say:

Milo is a 1½-year-old, approximately 40-pound American Bully/German Shepherd mix with a sweet heart and a silly personality. He is neutered, house-trained, crate-trained, and has spent the past year learning how to be a very good family dog. He still has some growing up to do, but he genuinely wants to understand what his people need from him.

Milo is a lover. He wants to be where his people are, preferably right next to them—or, given the opportunity, directly on top of them. He loves cuddling on the couch or in bed, rolling over for belly rubs, playing fetch and tug, carrying sticks, chewing on his squeaky snake, and getting a chewy bone every evening. When he's especially happy, he gets spectacular zoomies.

He's also quite convinced that he can talk. Milo is vocal when he's excited and has an earnest collection of little barks, grumbles, and noises that seem to mean things like, “Good morning,” “You're home!” and, most importantly, “I believe you've forgotten dinner.” He has made a lot of progress learning when it's time to be quiet and responds well to a calm “shhh” and a hand signal.

Milo has moderate energy. A good day for him includes one substantial walk, several potty/play breaks, some ball or toy time, and plenty of time relaxing near his people. Once he's had his activity, he settles very nicely in the house while his humans work, do chores, watch TV, or relax. He is accustomed to spending about 3–4 hours at a time in his kennel when necessary.

Milo currently lives with a three-year-old and has also spent time with another toddler. He likes children and seems genuinely interested in figuring out how to play with them. He can be remarkably thoughtful—for example, watching his tail around a little person or toning himself down when he's calm—but he's still a young, excitable dog who sometimes forgets his size when he wants to PLAY. He should continue to be supervised around young children while he learns good manners.

He enjoys other dogs and may especially enjoy having a playful canine companion. He previously lived with another large dog and has done well meeting dogs of different sizes when they are receptive to him. He isn't a dog who goes looking for conflict, but he will respond if another dog becomes aggressive with him, so introductions and play should be supervised. He tends to do best when everyone has plenty of room.

Cats have been around Milo his whole life. He currently lives with a very tolerant cat and is excited rather than intentionally aggressive, but he can be much too enthusiastic and has not learned to be appropriately gentle with cats. So depending upon your cat’s personality and tolerance level would be the determination if he would be a good fit or not.

Food is also something Milo's future person should know about. He occasionally becomes vocal or pushy with other animals while food is being prepared and may try to herd them away from the kitchen or food-storage area. This happens intermittently and has been manageable in his current home with calm boundaries, but his adopter should be comfortable continuing to work on resource guarding and managing meals appropriately.

Milo knows sit, stay, kennel, come, gentle, no, and a hand signal for quiet. He is learning leash manners and has improved tremendously with pulling. He is also learning to sit and wait when he sees another dog rather than immediately trying to greet them. He still jumps when excited and needs continued work on door manners.

Milo learns best through consistency, patience, and relationship. He's sensitive to repeated or harsh correction and may begin tuning a person out when he doesn't understand what is being asked of him. On the other hand, when someone calmly shows him what they do want, he watches closely and tries hard to get it right. He has already made tremendous progress with waiting for meals, checking in with his humans for direction, settling quietly, and walking more politely on leash. His current family believes that with maturity and good training, he has the potential to become an exceptionally thoughtful, well-mannered adult dog.

Milo can also be a scaredy-cat underneath all that bravado. New environments and large or unfamiliar noises can overwhelm him. He may tremble when he's somewhere new, and fireworks or the garbage truck can send him looking for a safe hiding spot. Car rides are still difficult for him. He does best with a person who stays calm, gives him reassurance, and helps him discover that new experiences are safe rather than forcing him through them.

Health-wise, Milo has a sensitive stomach and does not tolerate salmon well. He is currently transitioning from Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Turkey & Oatmeal to Freshpet Complete, which has been helping him considerably, and he receives a daily probiotic. His rabies and DHPP vaccinations will be updated before adoption.

Milo's ideal home would be with a confident, patient, experienced dog owner who understands that at 1½, he is still very much a young dog. He doesn't need perfection from his person; he needs consistency. He would love an active household, another compatible playful dog or a person who can give him plenty of companionship, regular exercise, and lots of affection. A yard would be nice but isn't necessary if his exercise needs are being met.

Most of all, Milo wants to be your best friend.

He's sweet, funny, affectionate, and deeply connected to his people. He looks to the people he loves to help him understand the world, and he tries hard to figure out what they need from him. With a patient person who will keep teaching him and loving him as he grows, we believe Milo is going to become an absolutely wonderful companion.
