Your Technicians Make Expensive Decisions
Your technicians make expensive decisions every day.
They decide which chemistry to use.
How much to use.
How aggressive to get.
Whether a spot can be removed.
Whether carpet can be saved.
What to tell the customer.
When to keep working.
And, just as importantly, when to stop.
Those decisions affect callbacks, damage claims, productivity, customer satisfaction and your reputation.
Training isn't simply another expense on the P&L.
Training improves the quality of the decisions being made in your company's name.
On September 20–21 in Boise, I'll be teaching the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) course live and in person.
CCT covers carpet construction, fibers, soil, chemistry, cleaning principles, spotting, equipment, methods and troubleshooting.
I also bring years of experience actually cleaning carpet, training technicians, troubleshooting difficult jobs and operating a cleaning company.
I understand what a seemingly small technician decision can eventually cost the business.
If you've got someone worth keeping, help them become someone worth promoting.
Invest in your people.

There is a big difference between:
five years of experience
and
one year of experience repeated five times.
Time alone doesn't make someone an expert.
Learning does.
Understanding does.
Being willing to ask why does.
If carpet cleaning is your profession, learn the science behind the work.
The IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician course covers carpet construction, fibers, soil, cleaning chemistry, spotting, equipment, cleaning methods and troubleshooting.
I'll be teaching CCT live in Boise September 20–21.
My goal is not to spend two days reading PowerPoint slides.
We're going to connect the principles to actual jobs:
Why did it brown?
Why did it wick?
Why didn't the spotter work?
Why did the carpet feel crunchy afterward?
When should you change chemistry?
When should you stop?
What is the fiber telling you?
Those are the questions that turn somebody who operates equipment into a technician who understands their craft.
Don't just accumulate years in the industry. Accumulate knowledge.

Stop Memorizing Procedures
Do you know how to clean carpet, or do you know the procedure your company taught you?
There is a difference.
Use this prespray.
Run the machine at this setting.
Make these passes.
Use this spotter when you see that stain.
That works until something doesn't behave normally.
Then what?
Professional carpet cleaning isn't about memorizing a collection of recipes.
It's understanding:
What am I cleaning?
What kind of fiber is it?
What type of soil am I dealing with?
What is my chemistry actually doing?
What variable should I change?
What could I damage if I get too aggressive?
Why did that spot come back?
On September 20–21, I’ll be teaching the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) course live in Boise.
We'll cover the IICRC curriculum, but my goal isn't merely to help you pass a test.
I want you to understand why carpet cleaning works.
I've spent years cleaning carpet, troubleshooting difficult jobs, training technicians and running a cleaning operation. The textbook matters. So does understanding what happens when the textbook meets somebody's living room.
Don't just become faster with a wand. Become better at the profession.

There are technicians who know how to set equipment.
There are technicians who know the procedure.
And then there are technicians people call when something doesn't make sense.
Become that technician.
The more you understand about materials, chemistry, soil, fibers and cleaning, the better decisions you can make when a job doesn't follow the script.
On September 20–21, I’m teaching the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) course live in Boise.
For restoration technicians, CCT is another opportunity to build your IICRC education while developing a skill set that comes up constantly in the real world.
Water losses happen on carpet.
Customers ask whether carpet can be saved.
Property managers ask whether it can be cleaned.
Spots wick back.
Residues cause problems.
Fibers respond differently.
Knowing how to run an extractor is useful.
Knowing why you're doing what you're doing makes you valuable.
If restoration is going to be your career, treat it like one.
Invest in what you know.

Your restoration career belongs to you.
Your company can give you opportunities. A good manager can help you develop. But ultimately, nobody else is responsible for building your career.
If you want to move forward in the restoration industry, build your knowledge and build your IICRC credentials.
On September 20–21 in Boise, I’ll be teaching the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) course live and in person.
CCT gives you a foundation in carpet construction, fibers, soil, chemistry, spotting, cleaning methods, equipment and troubleshooting.
For restoration professionals, that knowledge matters beyond carpet cleaning. Textile-cleaning certifications also become part of the pathway toward more advanced IICRC credentials and designations.
Don’t wait until somebody decides it’s time for you to learn something.
Take ownership of your education.
Build the credential.
Build the knowledge.
Build your career.
