Boise State said its Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) has turned $750,000 in donor contributions into $1.6 million, with the remaining growth coming from investment decisions made by its students.

Boise State’s College of Business and Economics students use the SMIF to gain real-world investing experience by researching companies, presenting investment strategies and making decisions for an actual portfolio.

This year, Boise State said the fund will distribute more than $65,000 back to the Boise State community, including over $58,000 in student scholarships and more than $7,000 to the campus food pantry.

Boise State said the fund’s growth beyond the original $750,000 has come from the investment decisions made by Boise State students.

Zoo Boise announced a zoo-themed trivia night called “Zoo Know It All.” The event is scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 24) at 6 p.m. and is for people 21 and older.

According to the announcement, attendees will take part in trivia, join a guided afterhours tour, and be able to purchase beer or wine. Tickets and event information are listed at zooboise.org/trivia [https://zooboise.org/trivia].

The posting says the event roster is “almost full.” The announcement also includes a photo caption referencing “Bat-eared fox Fern” by zookeeper Murphy.

Boise State University will hold a free film showcase featuring the documentary “Losing Sight of Shore.” The event will screen the film, which follows four women as they attempt to row across the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia.

The screening is set for Sept. 22 at 6:00 P.M. at the Special Events Center on Boise State’s campus. The program will also include commentary from director Sarah Moshman. Attendees can scan a QR code for more information.

The Boise School District said its BroncoBOLD students had a special weekend during a Boise State football game. Students from Boise, Borah, Capital and Timberline High Schools attended the game and were able to go down onto “the iconic Blue” as part of the BroncoBOLD High School Ambassador Program.

The district described BroncoBOLD as a Boise State Athletics mental health initiative. It said the program focuses on spreading hope, help and resiliency, reducing stigma and encouraging conversations around mental health. The district said BroncoBOLD now includes 20 high schools across Idaho, including four Boise School District high schools.

Boise School District said it was proud of the students for using their voices to support one another and help build stronger, more connected school communities. The district thanked Boise State Athletics and BroncoBOLD for what it called a memorable experience.

The U.S. National Weather Service in Boise, Idaho said astronomical fall begins today, though the weather is not expected to match the season.

The agency said a warming trend will continue through Thursday, when temperatures at lower elevations are expected to peak around 90 degrees.

On Friday, the National Weather Service said a cold front will bring gusty winds and more seasonable temperatures.

Boise State University said its Institute for Advancing American Values brought America Listens to Washington, D.C. in partnership with The George Washington University.

Boise State said the D.C. event built on eight Idaho Listens conversations across Idaho and the first Michigan Listens event.

The university said the conversation centered on a single question: “What do you value, and why?”

Instead of debating, participants shared what matters to them and listened to one another. Boise State said the event focused on what can happen when understanding comes before agreement.

Boise State said the conversation continues from Idaho to Michigan to Washington, D.C.

Treasure Valley Family YMCA thanked Catalyst Orthopaedics for helping make the Harrison Classic Kids Run a success.

In a post, the YMCA said it appreciates the orthopaedics company’s partnership.

The City of Boise said it will host an event called Drowned Towns: The Hidden History of Hydropower in the West on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Organizers said that throughout the twentieth century, hundreds of communities disappeared after reservoirs were created for massive dam projects built for irrigation, hydroelectricity and flood control.

The city said attendees will hear how displaced communities responded to their removal, what was lost, and what it means to call the West home.

Boise Parks and Rec issued a heads up for residents in West Boise that the playground at Cottonwood Park is scheduled to be closed for maintenance.

The department said the playground will be shut Tuesday and Wednesday, September 8 and 9, to allow for resurfacing. Boise Parks and Rec asked for understanding while the maintenance project is completed.

Boise Police Violent Crimes detectives are continuing to investigate a fatal stabbing that happened early morning during a house party on the 6000 block of N. Duncan Lane, according to the department.

The Ada County Coroner identified the victim as 20-year-old Casey Rayburn.

Investigators said they are reviewing multiple video clips taken by witnesses and believe other videos may exist that could help provide context and move the case forward.

“Even if you did not witness the altercation or stabbing, you may have evidence that can help us bring justice for Casey and his loved ones,” Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit Sgt. Justin Kendall said.

Police asked anyone who was at the party before, during, or after the altercation, and who left before speaking with officers, to submit all available video or pictures by using the online evidence request link: https://BoisePDID.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/9-7-26-homicide.

Anyone with information who has not spoken to police is also asked to contact Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.

Previously released information from Sept. 7, 2026, said Boise Police and Fire and Ada County Paramedics were called at about 1:30 a.m. to a report that a person had been stabbed on the 6000 block of N. Duncan Lane. Police said responders found people fleeing a large house party and an adult male stab victim on the front porch. First responders performed life-saving efforts, but the person later died of injuries.

Initial investigation determined that an altercation occurred on the front porch and resulted in the stabbing. At the time of the earlier update, the suspect had not been located, detectives said. The scene was described as secure, and the investigation was ongoing.
