Michael Papadakis on Idaho Today! Thanks for the invite! Big things coming soon, stay tuned!

Photos from Sunscribes's post 08/10/2026

Two years ago, I had the opportunity to capture a moment that lasted only minutes, the 2024 total solar eclipse over Grand Prairie, Texas, using sunlight itself to create a piece of art.

Now that piece has made its way back to Grand Prairie.

Throughout August, it’s on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! as part of their Odd Is Art exhibition. If you’re anywhere near the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I’d love for you to have the chance to see this piece in person. Photographs are one thing, but seeing what sunlight actually burned into the wood is something completely different.

Ripley’s has also turned the exhibition into a friendly competition, with visitors voting in person for their favorite artist. So if you happen to visit and my piece earns your vote, I’d certainly be honored, but more than anything, I’m grateful that Ripley’s has given this artwork another opportunity to be seen.

And Ripley’s gave me something I can pass along to you: 20% off Grand Prairie Combo Tickets throughout August with my promo code SUNSCRIBES20.

Thank you, Ripley’s, for continuing to give this unusual form of art, and this very special piece, a place in your world.

📜The Solar Declaration of Independence🔥

• 4’ × 5’📐
• 1,458 Words📝
• 58 Lines🗒️
• 56 Signatures✍️
• One Sun☀️

250 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, I recreated the entire document using nothing but sunlight.

Every word. Every line. Every signature.

Over 100 hours, I hand-burned the complete Declaration of Independence onto a 4 ft × 5 ft wooden panel using a single magnifying glass and the power of the sun.

What began as a sketch in a proposal became a reality when  Ripley's Believe It or Not! invited me to bring the project to life during America’s 250th anniversary celebration on July 4, 2026, in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the United States.

Throughout the day, people stopped, watched, asked questions, shared stories, and thanked me for bringing one of America’s most important documents back to life in a way they’d never seen before.

It wasn’t just about recreating history.

It was about reminding people that the ideas written 250 years ago can still inspire today.

This is one of the most meaningful works I’ve ever created, and I’m incredibly proud to finally share the journey & final video.

I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Did you know that you can draw with the sun?

Well, that’s what this artist does.

Known globally by his brand Michael Papadakis, Michael Papadakis is an international performance artist who practices “Heliography.” Heliography, or sun-writing, dates back to the 1800s as an early photographic process, but Papadakis takes a modern spin on it.

This is a star-spangled masterpiece. 🇺🇸

Artist Michael Papadakis visited Ripley’s Believe It or Not! St. Augustine for America’s 250th to recreate the Declaration of Independence using nothing but concentrated sunlight. Through a technique called heliography, he carefully focused the Sun’s rays with magnifying glasses to burn every intricate detail directly into wood. No paint, ink, or electricity required!

“Declaring my own Independence while burning a 4’ × 5’ foot Declaration of Independence into wood under the Florida Sun for July 4th event.
250 years ago, a people said ‘enough’ to a distant ruler and chose to write their own story.
Some of us are still having that conversation, with our past, with our doubts, with everything that’s held us back.
True independence isn’t given. It’s declared. And sometimes you have to sign it in Sunlight to mean it.
St. Augustine, July 4th, 2026. I’ll be there, signing mine under the same Sun that the original Declaration of Independence was declared under in 1776.
Who else is ready to declare their freedom?
