When it comes to collision repair, every detail matters. This case illustrates the importance of fully communicating any accident details to ensure comprehensive repairs. At CW Collision, we prioritize safety and transparency, treating every customer like family.

“Sorry, that’s just how the part fits” isn’t something we want to tell a customer.

Some aftermarket parts are made well and fit properly. Others may not align or match the vehicle’s original fit the way an OEM part does. When the gaps and body lines are off, it affects the quality of the finished repair.

As Gordon explains, the goal isn’t simply to get a replacement part onto the vehicle. It’s to complete a repair we can confidently stand behind.

Have questions about the parts listed on your estimate? Ask us. You deserve to understand what is being used on your vehicle and why.

1. Safely photograph everything before anything moves. Both cars, the whole scene, the road, the signals, the skid marks.

2. Call it in. A police report creates a record that exists whether or not anybody's story changes tomorrow.

3. Get safe first. If the car runs and it is drivable, get out of the lane.

4. Get the other driver's insurance and plate. Take a photo of their card and their plate rather than writing it down.

5. Photograph your vehicles interior. Airbags, dash lights, the odometer. That last one matters more than people think when a total loss value gets calculated.

6. Ensure the vehicle is safe to drive before you decide to drive it. If you're unsure, have it towed.

The best time to know this is before an accident happens.

Once everyone is safe, take clear photos of both vehicles, all visible damage, license plates and the overall scene. Be sure to exchange names, contact information, insurance companies and policy numbers before leaving.

Those few minutes of documentation can save you a lot of backtracking later—especially if the other driver becomes difficult to reach.

How long will my vehicle repair take?

It sounds like a simple question, but an honest answer depends on more than the damage you can see.

Once a vehicle is disassembled, additional damage may be discovered. Parts availability, insurance approvals, manufacturer-required repair procedures and necessary calibrations can also affect the timeline. Shawn, our estimator always keeps you up to date with the process.

Our goal isn’t to rush your vehicle through the shop or give you a date we can’t responsibly promise. It’s to complete every necessary step properly and keep you informed along the way.

Save this post and hopefully you never need it.

After an accident, it’s easy to forget details in the moment. If it’s safe to do so, taking a few extra photos can help document the condition of your vehicle, the scene, and important information you may need later.

One photo people often forget is the odometer. If a vehicle is later determined to be a total loss, mileage can be one of the factors used when evaluating its value.

A few minutes spent documenting the scene can make things much easier when questions come up later.

Save this checklist now so you have it if you ever need it.

Before choosing a collision repair shop, here are 5 questions worth asking:

1. Will you repair my vehicle according to the manufacturer’s procedures for my specific make, model, and year?

2. Are your technicians trained and qualified to repair the materials and technology used in my vehicle?

3. Will my vehicle require any ADAS calibrations after the repair, and if so, how will those be handled?

4. What parts are you using, and will they be clearly shown on my estimate? OEM, aftermarket, and recycled parts are three different things.

5. What is your warranty, and what does it cover?

These aren’t rude questions. It’s your family’s car, and you deserve to know how it’s being repaired.

The quality of a collision repair isn’t only in what you can see, it’s also in the work hidden behind the panels.

This advanced welder allows our technicians to recreate the type of pinch welds used when your vehicle was originally built, rather than simply placing a quick weld and grinding it smooth.

We want the best equipment we can possibly have in our shop. Because having the right tools and using them according to the vehicle manufacturer’s repair procedures, helps us return your vehicle to the road safely and properly.

Been in an accident? Let our family help yours understand what comes next.

OEM vs Aftermarket: Where this really matters is with structural components, parts that affect how the vehicle absorbs an impact, and anything a safety sensor mounts to. A small fit difference may not matter much on a piece of trim, but it can matter significantly on something like a bumper reinforcement, structural component, or radar bracket.

Insurance policies can handle replacement parts differently, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re stuck with one option. When OEM parts are important, we can review the repair with you, work with the insurance company when appropriate, and explain your options before anything is ordered.

For what it’s worth, we recommend OEM parts whenever possible.

Your vehicle was engineered and crash tested as a complete system, and OEM parts are the components designed specifically for that vehicle. When it comes to your family’s safety, we don’t believe in cutting corners.

Most importantly, you won’t be left guessing. We’ll explain what parts are being used, why they’re being recommended, and any options you have before they go on your vehicle.
