An empty or lightly loaded trailer has less weight resisting a strong side gust. Bridges, open fields and highway gaps between buildings can make the change especially noticeable. Wind speed alone is only part of the picture. Trailer weight and gusts matter too. 🌬️
Reducing speed and keeping more steering margin can make the combination easier to control before conditions get worse. CountryWide is hiring experienced drivers who know when road conditions call for a different pace 🚛

Experienced driving shows up in the small decisions that keep a day moving cleanly: setting up a tight turn before the trailer starts cutting inside, backing out of a bad approach instead of forcing it, slowing down before conditions demand it, and giving clear information when something changes. 🚛
That kind of judgment matters to us. CountryWide is hiring experienced drivers who can handle the road without turning every situation into a bigger problem. 🔧

On a tight turn, the trailer wheels follow a shorter radius than the steer axle. The longer the combination and the sharper the turn, the more pronounced that off-tracking becomes. 🚛
Set up the turn with enough room before the trailer starts pivoting, and keep the inside tandems in view around curbs, bollards and parked vehicles. The risk stays there until the trailer wheels have cleared the obstacle. ↪️

On a long descent, the engine should carry most of the speed control. FMCSA guidance recommends selecting a lower gear before starting down the grade and using service brakes as a supplement, not as the main way to hold speed. 🚛
Vehicle weight, grade length and steepness all change how quickly speed builds. Entering the descent too fast leaves the brakes doing work that should have been handled earlier by gear and engine braking. ⛰️

A steep railroad crossing can create a clearance problem underneath the trailer. 🚛
Low ground clearance around the landing gear, trailer frame or other components can leave a combination vehicle stuck on a high-profile crossing.
That’s why some crossings have Low Ground Clearance warning signs before the tracks. If your combination may not clear the crossing, don’t enter the tracks. Use another legal route. 🚂

When power reaches the trailer, the ABS warning light normally comes on briefly while the system checks itself, then goes out. 💡
If the light stays on, the trailer ABS has detected a fault. The service brakes still operate, but the anti-lock function may not be available when it’s needed.
If the lamp stays on after the self-check, the ABS fault needs to be diagnosed. 🔧

The clearance sign ahead is the information that matters now. 🚛
Truck navigation can help plan a route, but road conditions, restrictions and clearance information can change. If the posted height is too low for your truck, continuing because the route is still active on the GPS can put you in a situation with very few safe options.
Stop before reaching the structure and find a legal route around it. Never rely on squeezing through based on an estimated clearance. 📍

The re**er is set to 34°F and running. That number tells you the temperature setting entered into the unit. 🌡️
Temperature-sensitive freight has its own requirements, and the load paperwork is where the required setting and handling instructions need to be checked.
A re**er unit is designed primarily to maintain product temperature during transit. Starting the trip with cargo at the correct temperature matters before the doors close and the trailer gets moving. ❄️

You leave room ahead of the truck. A car changes lanes and fills most of it.
Now the gap has changed. 🚗
Ease off and rebuild your following distance instead of trying to hold the same pace behind the new vehicle. A loaded truck needs more road to slow down, and that extra space matters when traffic changes without warning. 🚛

You’re two hours ahead of the appointment and getting close to the end of your driving time. The receiver is only a few miles away, so waiting there seems like the obvious plan. 🕰️
Until you know their parking policy, it isn’t much of a plan.
Some facilities allow trucks to arrive early or wait on site. Others won’t let a driver through the gate until a specific check-in window. If you find that out with very little time left on your clock, the next safe parking option may already be behind you. 🅿️
Check the facility instructions before arrival and know what you’ll do if early parking isn’t available.
An appointment tells you when they expect the load. It doesn’t necessarily tell you where you can wait for it.
