🇯🇲 What a proud moment for our Jamaican community in Massachusetts.
As a Director of the Jamaica Association of Massachusetts, it was an honor to stand alongside our community as the Jamaican flag was raised at Boston City Hall in recognition of Jamaica’s 64th Independence.
Grateful to Mayor Michelle Wu for her continued support, Boston City Councilor Brian Worrell, Massachusetts State Representative Christopher Worrell, and Bianca Rose, Director of Community Engagement for the City of Boston, for joining us in recognizing this special moment.
And a special thank you to my fellow JAMA directors, members, and everyone from the Jamaican community across Boston and Massachusetts who came out to represent.
Moments like this remind me why the work we do matters. Our community continues to grow, contribute, and make its mark across Massachusetts.

My father wasn’t one to “humble” himself in the face of adversity and disrespect. From what I’ve learned, he was one that would do the very opposite. He asserted himself with conviction and spoke out unapologetically. And his own country, this led to several encounters with law enforcement, several of which escalated into incidences of police brutality. Legalization of weed/ganja/trees, whatever you may call it, didn’t happen by chance. We are where we are today, because of the sacrifices of those that came before us.

I had a great time with the Caribbean Foundation of Boston as we celebrated their founder Beulah Providence and many other phenomenal elders from the caribbean community around Boston.
We stand proudly on their shoulders. 🙏🏿
