People always ask before getting a dog...
should I get a male or a female?
And the honest answer is they are completely different creatures.
Not better or worse.
Just different.
In ways that will affect your daily life more than you expect.
Let's talk about it.
Male dogs are what I like to call velcro dogs.
They attach to you completely.
They follow you everywhere.
They want to be touching you at all times.
They will sit on your feet, lean on your legs, put their head on your lap uninvited.
They never grew out of the idea that they are a lap dog regardless of how big they got.
They are also what I lovingly call eternal puppies.
A 5 year old male dog still has the energy and the chaos of a puppy.
Still knocks things over.
Still gets overexcited about things he has seen a thousand times.
Still occasionally forgets his own name when something more interesting is happening.
Drama level is also very high.
A male dog will stub his toe and act like he needs immediate medical attention.
He will howl at the wind.
He will cry because dinner is two minutes late.
He is a lot.
He is wonderful.
Female dogs are a completely different story.
They love you deeply but on their own terms.
They decide when cuddle time is.
They decide when playtime is.
They will look at you with an expression that clearly communicates that they have assessed the situation and found you slightly lacking.
They mature faster and they know it.
The look a female dog gives you when you do something she disapproves of is genuinely one of the most humbling experiences available to a human being.
She is not clingy.
She is not dramatic.
She is composed, intelligent, and quietly running everything.
Both are incredible.
Both will love you completely.
They just love you very differently.
Which do you have?

Types of headaches:
Migraine.
Hypertension.
Stress.
And then there is the fourth one.
The one no doctor has a name for yet.
The one that hits at exactly 11pm.
When you are finally in bed.
Finally comfortable.
Finally drifting off.
And then it hits you.
Did my dog p**p today?
Like actually p**p?
I saw them squat twice on the walk but did anything actually happen?
Was it enough?
Was it the right consistency?
Should I be worried?
Should I call the vet?
Why am I googling "how many times should a dog p**p per day" at midnight?
Why does this feel like the most important question I have ever asked?
And now you are wide awake.
Running through the entire day in your head.
Replaying every walk.
Every bathroom break.
Every suspicious squat that may or may not have been productive.
This is the headache they never warned you about when you got a dog.
The midnight p**p audit.
The 3am existential crisis about fiber intake.
The moment you realise you know more about your dog's digestive schedule than you know about your own health.
We are all out here living this life.
And we would not trade it for anything.
Tag someone who has had this exact headache.
And comment below if you have ever googled your dog's p**p at an unreasonable hour. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿพ

1986: your dog had a bowl, a bone, and a stick.
And they were the happiest creature alive.
2006: suddenly there were leashes, branded food, and rubber balls.
We were getting serious.
2026: your dog has an orthopedic memory foam bed.
A stroller for when they get tired on walks.
A wardrobe with seasonal outfits.
A slow feeder bowl for mindful eating.
Puzzle toys for mental stimulation.
Dental chews, joint supplements, probiotic powder, omega 3 drops.
A grooming routine that takes longer than yours.
And a birthday party on their actual birthday with a dog friendly cake.
Somewhere between 1986 and now...
dogs stopped being pets.
And became family.
Tiny furry family members who somehow have better healthcare plans than most humans.
And honestly?
Good.
They deserve every single bit of it.
Because while we were out there living complicated messy human lives...
they were at home loving us without conditions.
Without judgment.
Without keeping score.
The least we can do is get them the good bed.
Comment below.
What is the most extra thing you have ever bought for your dog?
No judgment here.
This is a safe space. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Your dog is trying to talk to you every single day.
Most owners just don't know how to listen.
When your dog brings you their favorite toy...
they are not always asking you to play.
Sometimes they are bringing you the thing they love most in the world...
because they want to share it with you.
That is their version of saying "I love you."
When your dog nudges your hand with their nose...
they are not being annoying.
They are checking on you.
Making sure you are still there.
Making sure you are okay.
When your dog follows you from room to room...
they are not being clingy.
To them, you are their entire safe world.
And being near you is the only place that makes complete sense.
When your dog rests their head on your lap and looks up at you...
they are not just relaxing.
They are telling you that out of every place in the world they could be right now...
they choose to be here.
With you.
When your dog leans their whole body weight against your legs...
that is not them being lazy.
That is them saying you make them feel safe.
Completely and totally safe.
Dogs don't have complicated ways of showing love.
They don't write letters or make grand gestures.
They just stay close.
They just keep showing up.
They just keep choosing you.
Every single day.
In every small quiet way they know how.
The question is not whether your dog loves you.
The question is whether you are paying close enough attention to see it.
Start noticing the small things.
Because those small things are everything.
Comment below and tell me one thing your dog does that you never fully understood until now. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Your dog is not "just 3 years old."
In human years, they are already 28.
A full grown adult.
Someone who has lived, felt, experienced, and loved deeply.
And they have spent every single one of those years completely devoted to you.
This is the thing about dogs that people don't stop to think about enough.
Their lives move faster than ours.
Much faster.
When you bring home that tiny clumsy puppy...
by the time they turn one they are already a teenager in human years.
By three they are a young adult.
By seven they are middle aged.
And by ten...
they are a 62 year old human being who still gets excited to go on walks with you.
Who still wags their tail when you pick up the leash.
Who still looks at you the same way they did on the very first day.
That 10 year old dog who moves a little slower now...
who needs a little more time getting up in the morning...
who sleeps a little longer than they used to...
is not "getting old."
They are a 62 year old who has loved you faithfully for their entire life.
And they are still showing up for you every single day.
The least we can do is show up for them.
Extra patience on the slow mornings.
Shorter walks when they need it.
Softer voices, gentler hands, more time just sitting together.
They gave you everything they had.
Every single year of their short beautiful life.
Make sure their last years are as full of love as their first ones were.
Comment how old your dog is below.
And let's work out their human age together. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

An old man was sitting on his porch one evening.
His neighbor walked over and sat beside him.
They watched the sun go down together for a while without saying much.
Then the neighbor looked over and said...
"You know, I never understood why you talk to that dog of yours like he understands every word."
The old man smiled.
Didn't say anything for a moment.
Then he looked down at the dog lying across his feet.
And he said...
"He doesn't understand my words.
But he understands everything I mean.
He knows when I am tired before I say it.
He knows when something is wrong before I admit it.
He knows when I just need someone to sit with me without asking questions.
And every single day, without fail...
he chooses to be that for me.
Not because I feed him.
Not because he has to.
But because that is just who he is."
The neighbor went quiet.
Looked at the dog.
Then back at the old man.
And said...
"I think I need to go home and spend some time with my dog."
The old man nodded.
"Yeah," he said.
"You probably do."
There are people in this world who will never understand what it means to have a dog.
And that is okay.
But if you are reading this...
you already know.
You already know what it feels like to be loved by something that asks for so little and gives everything.
You already know what it feels like to walk through the door after the worst day of your life...
and have the one person who is always genuinely happy to see you...
be a dog.
Comment the name of your dog below.
The one who gets you without you having to explain yourself.
The one who just knows. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Most dog owners learn what their dog cannot eat the hard way.
And sometimes that lesson comes with a vet emergency at midnight.
So let's talk about this properly.
Your dog's stomach is not built like yours.
What feels completely harmless to you can shut down their kidneys, destroy their red blood cells, or cause seizures within hours.
Chocolate is the obvious one everyone knows about.
But grapes?
A single handful of grapes can cause complete kidney failure in a dog.
And the terrifying part is that vets still don't fully understand why.
It affects some dogs immediately and others not at all.
But the risk is never worth taking.
Onion and garlic are the sneaky ones.
Because they are in almost everything we cook.
Sauces, soups, seasoned meats, leftovers.
Even a small amount over time builds up in your dog's system and destroys their red blood cells.
It causes a condition called hemolytic anemia.
And by the time you notice the symptoms it has usually been happening for a while.
Avocado contains a toxin called persin.
It damages the heart muscle in dogs and causes fluid to build up around the lungs.
Raw dough is one most people never think about.
But if a dog eats raw dough it continues to expand inside their stomach.
And the yeast produces alcohol as it ferments.
So you are dealing with two problems at once.
Now the good news.
There is plenty your dog can safely enjoy.
Cooked chicken, white rice, pumpkin, carrots, eggs, apple slices without seeds, banana, cooked fish, broccoli in small amounts, and sweet potato.
These are not just safe.
They are genuinely good for your dog.
Save this post because one day it might save your dog's life.
And share it with every dog owner you know.
Because not everyone knows these things yet. ๐Ÿพ #
