As approaches, we remember the millions of Jews who observed this sacred day under unimaginable circumstances during the Holocaust.

Judy Weissenberg Cohen’s testimony from her experience in Auschwitz offers a glimpse into what Yom Kippur meant to those who endured starvation, torture, and loss, yet continued to hold onto their faith and identity.

Lisa Einstein, president of Boston 3G, an organization representing grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, works to prevent antisemitism in the Boston area.

“I think that Robert Kraft was absolutely justified,” Einstein said.

Einstein said the controversy goes beyond Macklemore using the words “Free Palestine.”

“It’s not about just the words ‘Free Palestine.’ That’s not what’s antisemitic,” Einstein said. “It’s more of the context, so Macklemore actually has a history of doing antisemitic things and demonizing the Jews.”

Born days apart in 1930 and both raised in Munkács, Czechoslovakia, Holocaust survivors Magda Bader and Ruth Cohen were transported to Auschwitz on the same day from the same spot when they were 14 years old. A chance encounter with Deborah Coltin, Lappin Foundation’s Executive Director, brought them together after 81 years.

A Q&A with Magda Bader and Executive Producers Deborah Coltin and Sarah Ovadia will follow the screening. Light refreshments will be served. The film is appropriate for middle school students and older.
