The Boston Ujima Project is organizing neighbors, workers, business owners and investors to create a community-controlled economy in Greater Boston.

The Boston Ujima Project is an ecosystem designed to strengthen local economic control and recenter economic power in low income communities and communities of color in Boston. Ujima (oo-JEE-mah) is a Swahili word, the celebrated Kwanzaa principle for β€œcollective work and responsibility.” Ujima inspires us to take responsibility for our communities, to see our neighbor’s problems as our own, and to build collective power to solve them together. Through Ujima, we are fostering a new economy based on democracy, sustainability and justice.

Fall at Ujima Wednesdays: In Us We Trust 10/02/2026

Join us at next week for The Currency of Relationships and Gracious Leadership with Ernesto "Eroc" Arroyo-Montano & Justice Roe Williams

Our relationship with each other as currency, is about more than what we earn, spend, or save, it is deeply connected to how we understand worth, value, power, and responsibility. Who taught us what we are worth, and what becomes possible when we reclaim the power to define that for ourselves?

Using the four I's of Relationships and Oppression, we will explore how our personal, generational, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural experiences have shaped what we believe about money and our own worth.
