The Fed's centrality this week, with a big weekday market event on Wednesday, intensifies.

Fed's two-day meeting Tuesday concludes with a rate decision, anticipated to raise rates by quarter-point.

Following sticky inflation, jobs' boost, and oil over $100, investors closely monitor Warsh for a one-hike or more aggressive move.

Wednesday also presents retail sales, reinforcing consumer strength.

Lennar and Salesforce, housing and AI adoption, respectively, round out the earnings landscape.

Market breaks losing streak, amid hot inflation print. Inflation came in at 3.4%, much of the inflation is being pulled from energy and data center demand. Raising rates is a pea brained idea. The market had baked in a hotter print so today's numbers offered some relief for the market, while continuing to pressure the Fed.

Producer prices come Thursday. Headline PPI is expected to rise 0.4% for the month and 5.3% over the past year. Core PPI is expected to increase 0.3%.

Then comes the big one on Friday. CPI is expected to rise 0.4% for the month and remain at 3.4% annually.

After last week’s strong jobs report, inflation could decide the Fed’s next move. Hotter numbers strengthen the case for a September rate hike. Cooler numbers give the Fed more room to stay patient.

Earnings season is mostly over, but Oracle and Adobe report Thursday, options markets are pricing them to 10% and 8%. Chewy, GameStop, AeroVironment and Kroger also report this week.

This winter, attention is the scarcest asset on the market, and GTA 6 just cornered supply. Expect hold times to stretch at every call center in America, and by January, expect a parade of executives blaming a video game for the earnings miss, the cost overrun, whatever needs a scapegoat that quarter.

Nvidia earnings and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s first Jackson Hole keynote will dominate the final week of August, putting both AI-driven profit growth and monetary policy in the spotlight.

Nvidia reports after Wednesday’s close. Analysts expect earnings of roughly $2.08 per share on $92.06 billion in revenue, nearly double last year’s results.

The headline numbers will matter, but guidance will matter more. Investors will focus on demand for Nvidia’s next generation of AI systems, gross margins, hyperscaler capital spending, and whether full-year revenue remains on track to approach $400 billion.

Several other major technology companies also report this week. Intuit announces results Tuesday, followed by Nvidia, Salesforce, and CrowdStrike on Wednesday. Marvell Technology reports Thursday, providing additional insight into AI infrastructure, cybersecurity, and corporate software spending.
