Rachel Reider and Kate Maloney Albiani of The Layered Life kick off the day with an hour devoted to the next generation of design talent, getting into the conversations that matter once the portfolio starts to click: finding your voice, communicating your value, choosing the right opportunities, building relationships and turning early momentum into a career with staying power.

The Layered Life was created around the candid business conversations its founders wish they had access to earlier in their careers, making this a fitting place to begin Icons of Influence. Fresh talent, hard won perspective and a little less mystery around what it actually takes to build a life in design.

To celebrate Hickory Chair’s return to the Boston Design Center through M Geough, Federico Contigiani, President of Hickory Chair, led a live chair deconstruction that revealed the craftsmanship, materials and construction hidden beneath the upholstery.

The afternoon continued with Nancy Berry, Editor in Chief of Northshore Home and President of ICAA New England, for a conversation about quality, longevity and what truly makes a piece worth investing in.
