This morning, I stood with Brigham and Women's MNA nurses in support of a fair contract to protect patient care. Nurses are the backbone of healthcare, having the deepest interactions and connections with patients and their families during their most vulnerable moments. I support the Brigham and Women's nurses as they strike for a safe work environment, a living wage, and affordable healthcare.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my mother, Siu Hay Chan. Those who know me, know how important my mom was in my life, and how she inspired change, love for family, and a drive to help others within me. She had a heart that strived to make others more comfortable and make her community a better place. For the last fourteen years, she valiantly fought against her illness, meeting every day with strength, joy, and a lust for life. She passed peacefully surrounded by those who she loved most. She will be missed by many, near and far. Her obituary and service information is below. Those who knew my mom are encouraged to share their memories in the guest book.

Food Allergy Awareness Week is May 10th to 16th. Food allergies are a very common medical diagnosis, affecting approximately 33 million Americans. Allergies are not a lifestyle choice or a dietary preference, they are a medical condition that can lead to serious reactions if not treated. If someone around you has a food allergy, it is important to consider how you can best accommodate their dietary and health needs. Many people with allergies carry an EpiPen, which can be lifesaving in an emergency. If you know someone with an EpiPen, consider asking them to teach you how to use it.

The House of Representatives recently observed a Moment of Silent Tribute to honor Millie Cox, a longtime Quincy resident who passed away on April 22nd at the age of 102. I met Millie many times over the years and was privileged to experience her love, positivity, and compassion firsthand. After years of service in the United States Marine Corps, her advocacy within the Quincy veteran community spanned decades. Millie was married for 70 years and had eight children, seventeen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was a ray of light in our community, and many people will miss her dearly. Millie is forever memorialized at Quincy Naval Park in Marina Bay.

Starting this week, the MBTA ferry will be running from Quincy into Boston. The ferry is a great alternative way to get to Boston during the week in the warmer months!

Last week, I spoke in support of the PROTECT Act on the House Floor. This legislation is a truly collaborative effort built upon valuable input from all members of the House, law enforcement, and community stakeholders. My colleagues in the Asian Caucus and I worked closely with the Black and Latino Legislative Caucus to address gaps in public safety that impact everyone. The PROTECT Act represents a practical approach within the law to ensure the state can provide all residents equal protection under our Commonwealth’s constitution and statutes.
