Good to learn that the expanded toxic cyanobacteria advisory has been lifted for the Charles. Now all we have to worry about is filthy, bacteria laden storm water and combined sewer overflows from this weekends storm.

As we batten down the hatches, double the lines and prepare for this weekend's storm on the Verandah at Constitution Marina on Boston Harbor, I'd like to remind you to be sensible and stay safe.

I'd also like to remind you that Al McReynolds caught the world record striped bass in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on September 21st, 1982 during a raging Nor'easter.

The fish weighed 78 pounds, 8 ounces, measured 53 inches long with a 34 and a half-inch girth, and was landed using light tackle and a silver minnow plug.

Algae blooms of this species have caused massive fish kills and die-offs on the sea floor in places like Hong Kong, Australia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, and Alaska. And that’s what happened in 2017, the last time a similar algae bloom took hold in Casco Bay. Shellfish and lobster died in some communities, unable to escape low-oxygen water.
