Just a few days left to weigh in on Boston’s future waterfront—there’s still time to make your voice heard! 🌊

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Boston are developing a plan to protect Boston’s coastline from flooding and rising seas, and public comments are due September 18.

Boston Harbor Now has outlined what we think is important to getting this plan right, from protecting the entire coastline to creating a more accessible, natural, and resilient waterfront.

Summer may be winding down, but the season on Boston Harbor is far from over!

Boston Harbor Now and its partners, the National Park Service, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Boston Harbor City Cruises, are extending programming into fall with a lineup of events and experiences designed to bring people from across Greater Boston onto the Harbor and Boston Harbor Islands throughout September and October.

REMINDER: The fall ferry schedule begins Thursday, Sept 10, with ferries departing from Boston to Spectacle Island from Thursdays through Sundays until Sept 27, after which the ferries will run from Fridays through Sundays until October 11.

Ferries to Peddocks Island will run Thursdays to Sundays until Oct 11.

PSA: Boston Harbor Island’s public ferry service schedule shifts to the fall service running from Sept 10 to Oct 12. Public ferries will depart from Boston to Spectacle from Thursdays through Sundays until Sept 27, after which the ferries will run from Fridays through Sundays until October 11.

The ferry service for Georges island will conclude for the season on September 7.

Peddocks ferry service will continue until October 11.

Join us for a cross-sector convening on waterfront access and equity, grounded in shared insight and designed to spark collective action.

For five years, a coalition of community groups, public agencies, and advocates has worked to make the waterfront open to everyone. The Waterfront for All Summit marks that milestone and sets the course for what comes next.

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Coalition for a Resilient and Inclusive Waterfront and Boston Harbor Now will co-host a free, one-day gathering at Boston Children's Museum. This summit is an opportunity to join other broad cross-section of partners, practitioners, and stakeholders around a shared mission: advancing a waterfront that is more accessible, welcoming, and equitable for all.

Grounded in data and insights from multiple organizations and perspectives, the summit's sessions are designed to help participants move beyond information-sharing alone toward a deeper shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead. From there, our goal is to create meaning collectively and build momentum for action across sectors, communities, and institutions.

Great news for Boston Harbor climate research: with $200,000 of state funding that Boston Harbor Now secured from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, several new wave buoys and flood sensors will be added to the suite of monitoring instruments operated by the Stone Living Lab, the climate research partnership that we lead with UMass Boston.

The Lab’s expanded Real-Time Monitoring Network will track wave conditions and overland flooding in more locations throughout Eastern Massachusetts. These sensors give planners, scientists, policymakers, and community members the information they need to understand changing conditions and help communities prepare for the impacts of dangerous coastal storms.
