Simmons alumnae/i had the opportunity to attend a Hard Hat Tour of the Living and Learning Center (LLC) on September 17.

Guided by Laura Brink Pisinski, Vice President of University Real Estate and Facilities, and our partners at Skanska USA, attendees got a firsthand look at the progress underway and learned how the project will transform the campus experience and bring the vision for One Simmons to life.

The tour included a preview of the new residence rooms, a glimpse of the gymnasium, and the pool, which is now filled with water!

The Simmons SLIS Library Fellows program, launched in 2022, focuses on support, opportunities, and mentorship for new LIS professionals. The program currently supports nine Fellows, addressing research-identified barriers the diversification of the LIS field by by providing meaningful work experience, financial and tuition support, and dedicated mentoring for professional and career support as students and emerging professionals. The Fellows are staff members at the Simmons University Library and other partner organizations such as the Boston Public Library, Greenfield Community College, and Loyola Notre Dame University, where they develop a critical understanding of the LIS field and refine their own career interests and aspirations. Past fellows have gone on to become librarians, archivists, and administrative professionals, bringing specialized training and experience to make an impact as professionals in the field.

🎓 SPOTLIGHT ON… Alison Frenz 🎓

⭐️ Alison received her undergraduate degree from Simmons University in 2004 with a major in communications, concentrating on public relations and marketing communications.

⭐️ Her favorite courses at Simmons were graphic design and layout and production classes, which were challenging but provided foundational support for her future career.

⭐️ Currently, Alison is a Practice Lead at the healthcare communications agency Real Chemistry, where she leads a team in pharmaceutical communications with a focus on oncology, rare diseases, and research and development.

⭐️ Her advice to current students? “It’s okay to have a plan, but it’s also okay to deviate from the plan. In fact, I encourage it… I never would have landed where I am if I had stuck to my plan or shied away because I thought I wouldn’t be ‘good’ at it.”
