SaturPLAY is a series of 6 youth-led interventions in collaboration with the Rose Kennedy Greenway to activate Mary Soo Hoo Park by having events on every last Saturday of the month, from April-October. ⁠SaturPLAY invites families to Chinatown to engage in games, activities, and play in one of Chinatown's only public spaces.

📢 Do you know a high school student interested in social justice and making a difference in your community alongside new and/or old friends?

🌟 Join A-VOYCE (Asian Voices for Organized Youth and Community Empowerment) for the 26-27 School Year Cycle! By joining A-VOYCE, youth leaders (like you!) get introduced to resources, workshops, and friends to create collective change in your community. You will have a place to understand your identity & leadership, learn about your local history, and collaborate with others also passionate in caring for the places we call home. 🫂

You can join the Chinatown or Malden program, which run from October 2026 to May 2027.
🕐 A-VOYCE Chinatown: Wednesdays, 4:15 to 6:15pm
🕐 A-VOYCE Malden: Tuesdays, 4 to 6pm

‼️ A-VOYCE is a FREE program open to anyone interested in creating collective change in their community—youth actually receive a stipend upon completion of the full school year! ⁠ This program works to center the diverse experiences of the Asian American diaspora, across language, geographic region, and culture. We welcome youth of all identities.

🌈 Last Saturday, Hudson Street Stoop Opening Day celebrated the new public art installation, A Place Like Home by ponnapa prakkamakul. 🌟

It was heartwarming to see the event, residents, and volunteers transform One Greenway Park into a place for our community's beauty, culture, and local history! We hope residents and visitors can connect with old and new friends, and create memories in this precious place.

🗳️ Today is Election Day! On August 13, we hosted a State Senate Candidates forum this evening at Malden City Hall.

With Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese interpretation, residents got to learn more about candidates running for the 5th Middlesex District State Senate seat, including Kate Lipper-Garabedian, Carey McDonald, and Ryan O'Malley.

With moderating help from Leverett Wing of Commonwealth Seminar. Cohosted by Greater Malden Asian American Coalition, Chinese Progressive Association, Asian Community Development Corporation, Asian Pacific Islanders Civic Action Network MA, and Massachusetts Senior Action Council.

🛝 Hudson Street Stoop program is ACDC's rotating public art initiative to transform One Greenway Park into an activated and inclusive neighborhood “stoop.” Before highway construction and urban renewal, the historically significant site of Hudson Street Stoop was once a bustling street where working-class Chinese, Syrian, and Lebanese residents gathered with neighbors and children played. ACDC’s Hudson Street Stoop program rekindles neighborly stoop culture through public art that celebrates Chinatown’s rich history and diversity and makes open green space more welcoming for the working-class residents who live there now.

About Summer Leadership Academy: At ACDC’s Summer Leadership Academy, high school students spend their summer breaks to put together Chinatown's beloved Films at the Gate festival. 📝 Gerald is a junior at Duke University majoring in urban planning. Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Gerald currently lives in North Carolina, and enjoys weightlifting, basketball, and thrifting outside of work and academics. Using his previous knowledge in placekeeping work and urban planning, Gerald enjoyed supporting work that benefits the Asian American community in the Greater Boston area.
