ThistleWork Design's owner-artist, Diane McDougall-Desautelle, specializes in calligraphy and design with a Celtic influence. DM for private commissions.
ThistleWork Design, since its beginning in Boston during the early '90's, has provided custom wedding invitation & cypher (monogram) design and envelope addressing. Hands include: Blackletter (Gothic), Script (Copperplate), and Italic (Chancery). Other services include: original celtic knotwork design; gilding (gold/silver leaf); decorative painting on musical instruments, wooden furniture, frames and mats; custom greeting cards and certificates for any occasion, hand-painted lettering on fabric (flags/banners). McDougall-Desautelle graduated from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts where she studied technical painting - learning the traditional gilding and egg tempera techniques of the old masters, along with oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, silkscreen printing, bookbinding, graphic design, photography, woodworking, metal smithing, ceramics, steel sculpture, and art history. She received her Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1991 along with her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tufts University where she continued studies and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching in 1993. Diane lives in the Boston Metrowest with her husband and two children. She is president of Masscribes, Inc. New England Calligrapher's Guild and is currently developing classes for youths, to teach calligraphy and the history of handwriting and to instill in children an appreciation for penmanship and the use of letterforms as a form of creative expression.

They have almost reached their forever home.
The deer is bounding
The fox is trotting
The rabbit is hopping
The owl is swooping
The cardinal is flitting
The fish are swimming
The possum is moseying
The turtle is creeping
The raccoon is climbing
The squirrel and the chipmunk are darting…
All of them are on their way to Durham, NC. For you see, there is a new little member of the McDougall clan. He has been growing bigger and stronger every day while I’ve been painting this woodland scene to welcome him to the world. I do hope they all arrive safely. 🙏👩🏻🎨

What do the red fox, the cottontail rabbit and the white-tailed deer have in common? They can all turn on a dime at 40 mph.

My husband has repeatedly expressed his fascination with how it can take me an entire weekday evening or Saturday afternoon to paint an animal the size of a postage stamp. (I do love his sense of humor, but it doesn’t speed things up.)

Peek-a-boo, little fox. Last night I finished some Dogwood tree blossoms on this piece I’ve been working on — a little bit each day— for the last few weeks. It has a border of animals and a very special baby’s name at the center.

I’m appreciating a relatively cool morning after the awful heat we’ve had this week. For your viewing pleasure here is this morning’s strawberry harvest — along with… big beautiful Orla (our Black Laced Silver Wyandotte hen who is easily 5 lbs.), the purple Clematis we planted years ago which guards the wren’s birdhouse, our birdbath being kept cool with a small iceberg, a tiny peek at what’s been on my drawing board in the studio for the past couple weeks, and a 4-year-old picture (I’m using as a reference image) of my daughter with a random possum she was saving from being licked to death one night by the German Shepherd. (Love this life.😆)
