This is a huge time-saver for transcribing old vital records. As the video shows, you need to check the output carefully.
Hat tip to the Lost Massachusetts podcast series “Edge of Town” which mentioned boundary terminus stones. This one is located on the border between Waltham and Newton Massachusetts, close to the Charles River. Such stones can be found all over New England and the Eastern United States and Canada, and were instrumental in marking boundaries in the 1800s before modern surveying techniques and GPS were available.

"They're all AI slop that looks like somebody told a discount AI program to drink an entire case of Four Loko, then take the photos and turn them into colorized moving images."

This 1870s Gamewell fire alarm system is still used today across the northeast. The original system came out of telegraph technology in the 1870s, and while it has been modernized the basic concept remains the same as it was 100 years ago. It was actually a back up when the Massachusetts 911 system failed a few years ago!

This video was sent to me by a long-time member of the EasyGenie community. Her brother put together a very, very detailed presentation about the 1700s history of an area in southern New York, from colonial times through the Revolutionary War. It's an example of the connections between family history and deep local historical research. It also highlights the importance of maps to tell a story. Thanks for sharing, Rita C.!

This is a huge time saver for anyone who needs to quickly transcribe an old vital record or letter for their genealogy research. Once you have the transcript from Claude or any other AI, you can either open it up in the desktop to paste over to your genealogy software, or use the Notes application on your phone to copy over the information and save it for later review.

I requested this death certificate from the New York Department of Health SIX YEARS AGO. It just arrived yesterday.
Yes it was a pandemic in Sept 2020 and I understood that genealogy records requests to the health dept would be delayed ... but 6 years? Does this seem right?

$75 for 70s-era linotype/printing press typefaces? There are few operating presses left, and even for those who are still running, this is not the font that typically used unless you are trying to recreate a Burger King ad from 1974.
It's a problem that's common at consignment antique shops, Craigslist, and Facebook groups. Collectors set prices far too high. They bought them for a lot a long time ago, and they either don't know the market value or can't fathom a lower price than what they paid, even with inflation factored in. Of course, they don't sell at the sticker price. It may even be hard to sell at half the price.
Demand for such items is practically nil. They need to be priced accordingly, or given away to someone who may appreciate or use them.
