A recent site visit to LORE Apartments in Salem, MA offered a closer look at the completed Canal Street multi-family residential development and the thoughtful outdoor spaces woven throughout the site.

Our landscape architecture team collaborated with ICON Architecture, Morin-Cameron, LEC Environmental Consultants, Inc., Arrowstreet, Criterion Development Partners, Dellbrookand other project partners to support a design that includes an amphitheater-style gathering space, outdoor grilling areas, a shared-use roadway with overhead catenary lighting, pool and park amenities, and a wood boardwalk overlooking a wetland replication area (designed with support from our structural team).

Built on a former industrial site, the newly constructed 250-unit community supports the growing demand for housing in historic Salem while enhancing the neighborhood and wetland ecology near Rosie’s Pond. LORE provides a direct connection to the Salem Bike Path and Marblehead Rail Trail, connecting residents to downtown Salem and the MBTA commuter rail. Located within a floodplain, the project also incorporates creative site design to provide accommodations for compensatory flood storage within our site features including the site amphitheater, meandering pocket park, and underground detention chambers below the roadway and parking areas.

Dedham Town Green shows how thoughtful public spaces can bring people together.
As the Tuesday night summer concert series wraps up, it’s been rewarding to see this green space welcome live music, residents, and community programming in the heart of Dedham Square.

Our landscape architects supported the design of the Town Green, transforming the former police station site into a flexible downtown space with a central lawn, shade, pedestrian connections, and areas for civic use.

Saturday concerts and other programming will continue through the end of October, offering more opportunities to gather and enjoy the space this fall.

In S**o, Maine, our landscape architecture, regulatory, and coastal engineering teams are working with the City of S**o Government on the first phase of its Local Beach Management Plan. Pictured is Rob Adams speaking at a public engagement session for the project earlier this year.

Once complete, this plan will provide guidance on short- and long-term conceptual strategies to maintain and conserve the coastline while protecting public infrastructure and minimizing loss to private property. The plan will also provide regulatory guidance and funding strategies.

For the Mount Washington Summit Assessment, our landscape architects worked alongside environmental scientists, engineers, ecologists, GIS specialists, and architects to assess existing conditions and help guide future improvements at Mount Washington State Park.
This important work will help the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources target efforts to improve visitor experience, address infrastructure needs, and actively safeguard one of the world’s most sensitive alpine ecosystems.

Quincy Navy Park at Squantum transforms a historically significant waterfront site into a place for reflection, learning, and gathering, connecting visitors with Quincy’s naval legacy. Our landscape architects designed the park to bring air and sea history to life through welcoming public spaces and immersive interpretive features inspired by the site’s history of shipbuilding and aviation.

To develop an important watershed-based plan for the Massachusetts portion of the Spicket River Watershed, our team identified priority locations for green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to reduce stormwater runoff and improve stormwater quality. Our landscape architects created visualizations for public outreach and grant applications, helping our client build community support and secure funding to advance the next phase of two priority green infrastructure projects.

We’re honored to share that our work on the Wharf District Resiliency Plan was recognized with an Honor Award in the Analysis and Planning category at the Boston Society of Landscape Architects Society of Landscape Architects Design Awards.

Our firm and a team led by Arup and the Wharf District Council developed a vision for a resilient waterfront that adapts to projected sea level rise and storm events while expanding public Harborwalk access along the iconic, working waterfront in Boston’s Wharf District. https://ow.ly/8QKj50ZeH7M

Richard Houghton joined our client, Friends of the Public Garden, at Fenway Park to accept the Frederick Law Olmsted Award from Preservation Massachusetts for our work on the Child Fountain Restoration.

We collaborated with project partners to renovate the historic fountain and sculptures at the iconic Arlington Street entrance of the garden. The project reactivated the fountains that had been out of service for decades, added additional seating to sit and enjoy the fountain and artwork, and enhanced the visitor experience while respecting the historic character of the garden.

We had a great time connecting with members of the community at the Stratford Main Street Festival and gathering input on the Stratford Civic Plaza project.

Our landscape architects are working with the Town of Stratford to redesign a new campus on a 13-acre parcel adjacent to various community facilities, including the Sterling House Community Center, Sterling Homestead, Stratford Library, and more. Once complete, the new site design aims to enhance accessible connections between these buildings, improve vehicle access and parking, and develop the plaza to support educational programming and community events in the outdoor spaces.
