Cannes Lions is known as the Oscars of Advertising — and our Unwrap The Future campaign made the shortlist! This signifies something really big: seaweed-based packaging is a tool to drive pop culture and consumer engagement.

For International Seaweed Day, Lonely Whale and Sway flipped the script on the traditional, waste-heavy “unboxing” experience by instead spotlighting the package itself. We partnered with incredible creators, from celebrities like and , to environmental advocates like and , to build excitement and awareness around materials that replenish the planet.

Even pitched in, offering his YouTube platform to exclusively host free streaming of the documentary ‘Seaweed Stories,’ a vibrant film showcasing extraordinary stories and characters from around the world whose lives revolve around seaweed.

The impact of this campaign generated a tidal wave of attention:
🌊 60M+ organic impressions
🔥 2M+ reactions in under a week
🌟 36k+ views of ‘Seaweed Stories’ via

Thank you to our incredible teams, our partners, and *all* of the visionary creators who helped us bring this activation to the world’s stage 👏

Oh, what a night 🪩🕺

Sway celebrated 5 years of product (!) and our new Emeryville HQ with a party. Thank you to all who joined the evening – it was a true delight to unite with friends old and new, honor the past 5 years, and look forward to what comes next 🎉

The repeated feedback we heard was how awesome the crowd was, and it’s true! Brands, plastic manufacturers, packaging distributors, investors, seaweed lovers, compost and waste experts. Innovation is a journey, and we continue to learn and grow with the guidance of our community.

Shoutout to our magical featured guests:

Coming to a backyard compost pile near you: TPSea Flex™ 1.0 is officially certified *home compostable* by 🍃🌞🐛

If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen Sway packaging evolve from “certification pending” to industrial compost certified. Now, home compost certification is finally here!

We love that home compost is accessible to all, circular by nature, and a process you can watch happen before your eyes. Learn how to set up your own bin (countertop, backyard, freezer, or otherwise) in our Compost 101 highlight 🌱

PS – If you’re unsure of your municipality accepts compost, use the link in our bio to search “waste guidelines in my county” 🔎

To the man who has spent a lifetime making sure we never take this planet for granted. Today, the extraordinary Sir David Attenborough celebrates 100 trips around the sun 🌞🎂

For over seven decades, has taken us to the far edges of the Earth to introduce us to the myriad of species that call our planet home. A gifted storyteller and passionate environmental advocate, he helps us see the wonder of all organisms, from the corals of the Great Barrier Reef to the emperor penguins of Antarctica.

Though he’s enjoying his days off social media, join us in wishing Sir David a very happy centennial! A true international treasure. Thank you for reminding us how precious this planet is and that “a sustainable future will mean a better world for all of us” 🌍🍃

The greatest thing we can do for the planet is...

Consume less!

This can look like: repurposing items you already have, borrowing pieces from friends, or shopping secondhand at thrift and consignment stores. Because who doesn’t want to get more mileage out of items that already exist and find items you’ll cherish for years to come?

Enjoy these thrifty sentiments and share your most beloved thrift find below 💖
