It's Spotlight Saturday! Yvenson graduated from YouthBuild Boston's Pre-Apprentice program in 2023. Since then, he's been working as a Project Engineer Apprentice at Dimeo Construction Company for three years. He will complete his apprenticeship next month and plans to continue working at Dimeo as a superintendent after earning his Construction Supervisor License. He has found a community at Dimeo.

As a pre-apprentice, Yvenson was passionate about serving the community, and that has continued that passion during his time at Dimeo. "That's the reason why I got into this—to help other people," Yvenson said. "I'm not putting up these buildings for no reason. People are going to live in them. Almost all the buildings we do are low-income housing so it's helping a lot of people."

Yvenson is always eager to give back to the YouthBuild Boston community by welcoming new cohorts, attending community events, and leading site visits." YBB understands what it's like growing up in Boston, not having an opportunity like other people," he said. "And they work with you. They make you feel heard."

This Labor Day, we're celebrating the people who build, repair, design, and strengthen our communities, along with the students stepping into that work next. YouthBuild Boston is proud to help young people explore pathways into the trades and prepare for careers in construction and related fields.

For a student learning carpentry, that route usually isn't one leap. It often starts with practice in our workshop and continues through industry certifications, visits to training centers and live job sites, and then an apprenticeship or a first job.

Our vocational instructors guide the hands-on side while our traditional teachers cover the classroom work, and our Stage 2 pre-apprenticeship adds job search preparation and union placement assistance.

What happens when a community comes together for Boston's young people? Our Fourth Annual Golf Tournament on August 31 at Wollaston Golf Club is a perfect example!

Golfers, sponsors, board members, auction bidders, and staff all turned out, and together you helped YouthBuild Boston raise over $125,000.

Those funds go toward hands-on carpentry training, academic instruction, industry certifications, and the mentorship our students rely on as they move from learning to doing.
