A bit late to post but happy to share that My Grandmother Grew these Gourds 3 is available through the MassArt Auction raising money for scholarships.

Artist’s Description:
The Reed is #2 round reed with a rough diameter of 1/16th or 1.75mm. The Gourd is believed to be Lagenaria Siceraria or commonly known as Calabash or Bottle Gourd grown in my grandmother’s garden in Upstate New York.
Small holes were drilled into the Gourds to allow for the stakes. Three Rod Wale or Triple Twining was then used to create the woven form. Edges were finished by simply cutting the stakes and tucking the weft.

This is a sculptural piece made to be hung slightly off the wall or in space. A simple white wall mount l allows the piece to hang in space, able to rotate with the slightest breeze and therefore viewable in the round appearing to float.

I'm very happy to announce my acceptance into Basketry Now 2025 with National Basketry Organization at The Textile Center !
My piece "my grandmother grew these gourds 2" will be on view at the Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota from July through October with an opening reception on August 7th along with 64 other artists selected out of 94 by Juror and Founding Member Gyöngy Laky
