4 reasons This summer > Last summer

1. All my kids came home 🄰 made me so happy to get to enjoy them and see them enjoying teach other.

2. Last summer got plagued by a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. This summer, wore Foot Levelers that support all 3 arches in the foot and didn’t miss a day of training.

3. Built in days to explore in the mountains šŸ”ļø Solidified I want to race in the trails sometime in the next year!

4. Spent less time consuming and more time creating and being in nature šŸŽØ (but I did consume a lot of pizzas that the kids created at their jobs!)

Feeling good about the base we built and excited to start dialing in the workouts with 2 months til Chicago Marathon !

I’m racing Chicago Marathon! ✨

Each Chicago Marathon I’ve run holds such special memories of the people I shared the roads with that pushed me to be my best— from a redemptive 2nd ever marathon that solidified my desire to keep pursuing the event, to getting on the podium in 2022.

Really looking forward to the work ahead to make this my fastest yet and being out there with you all in 3 months! Enjoy the grind ā¤ļø

ā€œYou need to fuel your body well to keep your bones strong so you can enjoy this sport for many years. Keep a long term perspective.ā€ — the advice reinforced by the people around me over and over at a young age.

Entering my 32nd year of running high mileage, during which I’ve only had one bone stress injury and I’m so thankful for those at each stage of my career that kept me on the right path. I love the feeling of being able to send it on a 3 1/2 hour run up and down a mountain and run intervals 48 hours later and trust my body to handle it. My iron stomach can manage 120+ grams of carbs an hour in workouts and races thanks to the early years of eating 4 bowls of cereal right before runningšŸ˜†. Workout fueling is an art but food is fun, it’s culture and one of the best parts of life.

My fall buildup started this week—same forward lean, same love for the grind. Still filled with carbs and excitement to see what we can do ✨

We're finally doing it—come run in Europe with us! šŸ”ļø

This European summer has been a dream—the fjords in Norway, a few days in Chamonix—and it's only made me more excited for what's next: Ryan and I are hosting a trip of our own.

Next May, we're spending 9 days running from Slovenia's Julian Alps down to a Croatian island in the Adriatic—visiting alpine valleys, turquoise rivers, and farm stays where dinner comes from the fields you ran through that morning.

This isn't a race! You don't need to be fast! It's a trip for runners. Mornings are guided runs on trails so runners, walkers, and hikers can all find their pace. Afternoons are for everything else: swimming in alpine lakes, wandering old coastal towns, local wine, long dinners.

Ryan and I will be on every run and at every table.

One of my favorite things about this sport is how quickly strangers become lifelong friends when you put them on a trail together, and with only 12 spots, this group is going to feel like family by day two.

Everything's handled by our friends at , who've been guiding runners through places like this since 2013. We just get to run.

Twelve spots only— here’s the info!

Making room in your training for spontaneity and adventure infuses it with joy šŸ”ļø

I wasn’t slated for a workout today but I woke up feeling good and we decided to do some threshold miles up high. Midway through I looked up at Mt CB and decided I wanted to cool down to the top. The heart rate stayed pretty high on the 4.9 mile trek that climbed almost 3,000 feet and it got a little cliffy at the end, but I reminded myself Emma Coburn did this at 4 years old, so toughen up. šŸ˜

The times I was most dialed in as a pro athlete were the times I was least happy and performed the worst. Having big goals means many days still take discipline and adherence to the plan, but we like to add in space for days like today which bring me back to how I first got into the sport—getting carried away in the trails, exploring my limits and my surroundings. ā˜ŗļø
