The Young-Pearse lab focuses on the identification of the mechanistic causes of neurodegenerative and developmental disorders of the nervous system, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel targets for therapeutic interventions for these diseases.

A big congratulations to Sarah Heuer for receiving the NOA for her F32 NRSA fellowship through the National Institute on Aging! Her proposal is exciting and sure to yield impactful results for the field. Way to go Sarah!

A huge congratulations to Dr. Gizem Terzioğlu on a fantastic presentation and defense of her thesis work! Her stellar research has provided important new insights into the role of microglia in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. We are so proud of all she has accomplished and will miss her tremendously as she moves on to Sanofi for her postdoctoral work. Congratulations, Dr. Terzioğlu!

We are happy to welcome Julia Choi to the lab as our newest undergrad! Julia is a Harvard student majoring in Computational Neuroscience. We are also excited to have Arnab Misra and Cecilia Riordan-Bourges continuing their studies in our lab this summer as well.

It was great to attend the BD² Funded Investigators Meeting in Fort Lauderdale with colleagues. We had inspiring discussions, established new collaborations, and the had the opportunity to share our work. We are grateful to be part of a community working to help individuals with bipolar disorder thrive.

We are excited to share our latest publication, " POU3F2 regulates canonical Wnt signalling via SOX13 and ADNP to expand the neural progenitor population" which was published in the journal Brain in December!
Lead author Courtney Benoit and Tracy discussed the paper on a recent podcast - the 33rd episode of "The Brain Podcast” – “Models matter: human-specific roles of POU3F2 and Wnt Signalling in neurodevelopment”.

Welcome to the lab Masin Kearney!
Masin graduated from Emory in 2025 and is a now a technician who is working with both the research lab and the NeuroHub facility to develop stem cell derived neural cell cultures from humans across various ancestral backgrounds.
