Summer may be winding down, but we’re keeping things going until someone stops us. The last 10 days have featured some fantastic workshops. These are just a few of our favorites, but we hope some of you will tag with your gems.

“Impromptu ICM” During our warm up on a photo walk the group tried out intentional camera movement utilizing the grey start to the morning. When life gives you lemons..

ICM continued. Channeling Kathy Sferra on these ones!

BPW Photo Walk: The Great Elephant Migration on Comm Ave. The energy on the common was pure joy and fun. These 100 life size elephant sculptures had our group with “trunk” fulls of photos 🙄

Too much fun

BPW Day-trip: Sunset at Ogunquit, ME. This annual day trip is top 10 of the year. The marginal way sits along the rocky coast of Maine and always supplies calming scenes and dynamic compositions.

Ogunquit: Perkins Cover and The Basin feature colorful dinghies that offer texture, line, and old time New England vibes.

Just too much fun with the boats and color on the water.

Finishing up at Perkins Cove the group photographed dramatic clouds at sunset with equally impressive reflections on the water below, while standing atop an old drawbridge.

This weekend Chris Sanchez and Sami Wright | Photographer hosted our elusive IR & UV photography workshop. IR (infrared) and UV (ultraviolet) are types of light that typical cameras can’t capture. In our workshop students borrowed specialty modified cameras and three filters to experiment and discover a wold of hidden color. Keep an eye out for the workshop x1 more time in 2026. To help folks create photos for our challenge, I decided to share some examples of pictures taken with different apertures.

I made these 3 photos using the same lens, but with different aperture settings. Changing your aperture (aka your F-number) can alter what’s called the “depth of field” or how soft or sharp the background feels.
Which version do you think looks best??

Let me know what questions you have about apertures / f-stops, or depth of field. We’re here to help!

Snaps from a recent  scout trip to Iceland with

6 days of driving north/south/east & west through an otherworldly landscape of neon yellow moss filled lava fields, waterfalls, wild horses, glaciers, early mornings, and a lucky night of Aurora Borealis.

What an insane place.

Instructor AND model, what can't our instructors do? BPW instructor got this shot of fellow instructor posing in front of the camera to give her Portraiture students the opportunity to practice what they learned.

STUDENT SHOUTOUT: Over the summer, journeyed back home to Taiwan and snapped shots along the way as she traveled through the country’s mountains and flatlands. She captured moments like this — filled with vibrant color and achieving a simple yet pleasing composition — that beautifully highlight the essence of summer.☀️🏮
