It’s not about a look, it’s about listening. One of these tables is where the homework happens. One hosts a dinner party twice a month. One belongs to a family with teenage boys, so it’s practically IN the kitchen (closest to the food 😂). Same design team, three totally different answers, tailored to how each family actually lives.

Everybody sees the pretty picture at the end, but let’s talk about part of what it takes to get there. Speaking of what it takes, shout out to the incredible team Clark + Green Architects and the photographer who captured our work together so beautifully Marco Petrini

Every kitchen starts with the work triangle- stove, sink, fridge- the three points you move between most. Get the distances wrong and the room fights you every day.

Then it’s the second layer: the dishwasher getting loaded near the sink, but also near where the everyday dishes live. Where does trash go, and is it still reachable for prep? These things alone solve or create 80% of a kitchen’s daily friction.

There is no one “right” answer, even in a new build where you get to help design from the ground up. Yet each client has their right answer- how they want to use and inhabit what is (arguably) the most important room in the house.

Then the fun part- using inspirational photos to show what’s possible, selecting finishes, materials, and fixtures. Every material earns its place.

We go back and check our assumptions in elevation, as we work out the details and refine the design.

This Westchester client asked for two things that don’t always live in the same house: a formal living room with real presence for entertaining, and a family room built for texture, comfort, and real life- dogs, kids, a movie night.

Six years ago, Karen Beckwith Creative welcomed a new designer to our interior design team, my daughter Ardis Barrow. What started as an experiment (for both of us) grew organically into a true creative partnership.

Ardis joined us from New York, where she had built a reputation as an accomplished muralist and stylist. Within a year, she relocated to the Berkshires and brought with her a fresh approach: implementing the tech tools and project management systems that now allow us to collaborate seamlessly and manage every detail of our projects from anywhere.

She also brought her fresh point of view to our design work. My greatest personal joy of our working partnership remains the easy creative alignment we share on matters of design, style, pattern and color. So, what began as an experiment quickly evolved into a partnership built on our shared taste & trust.

Now it’s time for our name to reflect that evolution.

We’re the same team — and we remain, as always, at your (creative) service.
