Meet Maggie, a sweet and happy girl who was brought in by animal control with almost no hair and several open wounds. She has been treated with antibiotics and steroids and has come a long way since that first day, though several areas of hair loss remain on her body. Despite everything she has been through and everything she still carries visibly, Maggie has never been anything but gentle, loving, and an absolute joy to be around. Every foster home she has stayed in has called her the perfect house guest, and yet she keeps being passed over again and again.

Maggie's future family can expect a calm, sweet, and deeply grateful girl who has already proven she thrives in a home environment. Her hair loss does not affect her health or her happiness, it is simply a reminder of what she’s been through. Maggie simply deserves a calm, settled home where she can finally stop moving around and be loved.

Meet Bradley, a medium-sized, neutered, and fully vaccinated boy estimated to be somewhere between three and eight years old. Bradley is quiet, affectionate, and one of those rare dogs who is equally happy playing with toys as he is melting into a lap for a long cuddle session. Bradley loves belly rubs, being brushed and does not chew furniture. He wants nothing more than to be wherever his people are, and he has a way of making everyone around him feel completely at ease.

Bradley's future family can expect a companion who thrives in a quiet, settled environment where he can feel truly safe. He can be anxious on busy streets, so a calmer neighborhood suits him well. He has coexisted peacefully with a cat from a distance and would do beautifully alongside a dog who shares his preference for a relaxed, low-key dynamic. He is not motivated by human food unless chicken, cheese, or hot dogs are involved. For the right quiet household, he will be an absolute treasure.

When we launched Long Stay, No Longer, we set out to answer a simple question: could DNA insights help the most overlooked shelter dogs finally find homes?

The answer is yes.

Half of the dogs in our program found homes within just ten weeks of receiving their DNA results — after spending an average of 1.5 years in shelter or rescue care. When adopters know a dog's breed mix, health risks, and unique traits, they can picture life together and say yes with confidence.

Meet Ollie, a 106-pound boy with the heart of a lap dog and absolutely zero awareness of his own size. He came to the rescue from a Texas shelter after months of waiting with no luck, arriving via a small volunteer hobby plane — because a boy this special deserves a grand entrance. Since landing with us, Ollie has grown more confident and comfortable every day, settling into the gloriously laid-back, mellow, and affectionate big guy he was always meant to be. He is friendly with everyone he meets, loves playing with other dogs who share his relaxed energy, walks well on leash, and is fully kennel trained.

Ollie's future family can expect a gentle, goofball giant who will attempt to sit in your lap at every available opportunity. He is happiest when he is close to his people, soaking up affection from anyone willing to give it. He does best in a home without small children simply because of his size and his deep commitment to being on top of someone at all times. He had a health scare with bloat a few months ago but came through surgery like a champ, and with his stomach now tacked he is doing better than ever. All he needs now is a cozy home, a kiddie pool for summer, a big stuffed toy, and someone to sit on.
