Please read and complete the form at the bottom of Newhouse Wildlife Rescue’s post below on rodenticides. They don’t only kill the mouse or chipmunk or vole… they can and do kill the down the food chain.

Are you tired of fighting it? This whole rat poison issue? They hope you are. They are banking on it…literally.

Pest control companies make an obscene amount of money from SGARS (second generation anticoagulant rodenticides). Wildlife clinics, rehabbers and other advocates have been fighting against the use of this poison for years and proven to those in power, that this stuff is killing unintended targets - including children, pets and MANY predator species.

Below just one of the faces recently affected. 9 months old and she required a transfusion to save her life. Her crime - eating poisoned mice.

She can’t tell them what she went through. She can’t say what it cost her. I can tell you it came close to costing her her life.

I’m tired of signing forms and showing up to legislators offices to complain about this. To beg them to ban it. To leave with all of them nodding, but nothing happening…

But how can we give up? I can’t look in those eyes and say, “Sorry. I’m tired of fighting.”

I’m asking for your help. I wish I could say this was the last time, but it won’t be. I’m going to need your voice.

Hell - THEY need your voice.

Please sign this petition to allow Massachusetts towns to individually ban it on private property. Right now towns can only ban it on municipal properties.

A panel of 6 people are going to make this decision and they are going to make it SOON.

PLEASE. It will only take a few minutes and could say thousands upon thousands of life.

Do it for her and for all who have perished and suffered from this poison without having a say.

Show them we will not stop fighting this issue.

Handsome, energetic, and full of love — that’s Henry! This athletic boy may be 7 years young, but he can run circles around dogs half his age. Henry adores being outside, whether he’s playing fetch, going on long walks, hiking, or just rolling on his back in the sunshine. A fenced yard is a plus, and daily exercise is a must for this spirited guy.
Henry’s favorite nicknames include Hen, Henri, and Henrald. He’s also known as the Squeaker Hunter — stuffed toys don’t stand a chance! Henry loves his meals and does great on Blue Buffalo Chicken & Rice (2–3 cups/day), served in a slow feeder bowl or snuffle mat. He enjoys tasty treats like turkey tendons, frozen marrow bones, peanut butter-filled bones, beef liver treats, pizza crust, eggs, bacon, and cheese — a true connoisseur!
🏡 Home Life
Henry is fully crate trained and potty trained. He currently prefers his large Ruffland crate, goes in happily with the command “Crate,” and eats his meals there. He sleeps soundly through the night — though if he had it his way, he’d love to snuggle in bed with his human every evening. Henry is an excellent cuddler and loves following his person around the house carrying his toys or bowl 🙂 . He’s friendly with visitors when properly introduced and enjoys the company of other dogs once he’s had a slow, positive introduction.
Henry can have separation anxiety but can be left safely in his crate while you're out of the house. He’s also a vocal guy — he loves to express himself! A bark collar helps, but potential adopters should expect a chatty companion. We feel Henry would benefit from a fenced yard to allow him space to run around and expend some energy.
🐾 Activities & Skills
Henry occasionally attends doggy daycare and, once integrated, does well with his group. He’s gone swimming and even fetched toys in the water! He knows basic commands like sit, down, stay, and paw — though his excitement sometimes makes him forgetful.
Off-leash hikes in quiet areas are his happy place, where his recall is great and his tail never stops wagging.
✏️ Ongoing Training
Henry is eager to please and very smart, but he’s still polishing a few manners:
• Leash walking: He pulls when excited to head out, but improves once he settles.
• Jumping: He gets so happy to see people he can’t help himself!
• Counter surfing: Sneaky, but improving with consistent training.
• Barking: Managed with a bark collar.
• Mouthiness: He can get nibbley when excited — giving him a toy helps a lot.
• Patience: When overstimulated, his crate is a safe and helpful place to relax.
• Car rides: He’s thrilled to go, which leads to some excited whining on the way.

Girl Scouts just announced Patch Pals, their first cookie made just for pups! They are blueberry muffin-flavored treats that are shaped like Girl Scout patches. Coming up in the 2027 Girl Scout Cookie season, giving our furry family members a chance to get in on the Girl Scout cookie fun too.

We have a feeling a few pups might volunteer to be taste-testers. 😂

My name is Leo. I am a Lab mix who is extremely loyal, playful, and very smart. My favorite things to do is play fetch with the chuck it ball in the yard. I get so fixated on that ball that I could chase it all day. I love to be outside with walks or chasing the ball. I also love squeaky toys, and the lab in me loves the water. At the end of the day I will curl up at your feet, and when inside, I will follow you around the house, and watch tv with you. I do growl every once and a while when I see animals on tv but stop when I hear the command “enough”.

I know some basic commands. Sit, wait, come, down, ball, enough, and go potty. The last command that I have been working on and am very good at now is “place”. When I hear that command, I go into my crate, and wait until things calm down. I am crate trained, and find that to be my safe space when things get hectic. This is where I eat my meals. I am not food aggressive. You can take my bowl away, and I will be fine. I will also let you know when I need to go outside and need to go potty.

When someone I don’t know comes to the house I do bark but I am given the command place, and I go to my crate where I stay until the company is in the house and there is a more relaxed atmosphere.

My previous owner had a 14 month old son, and I was very gentle with him. He would even give me his food, and I would gently take from his hand. Also, I got very close with children who I knew, and was very good with them. Once I get to know you and I feel safe, (treats help, I really love treats) I will follow you around, and am very loving.

I do not do well with reactive/unstable dogs. I do not like cats. I had to leave my previous home because of this. I have been in a few dog fights. I need an owner who commit to my basic training and proper leash training so I focus on you and not be reactive to other dogs. On walks, I am told to sit, then wait as other dogs pass.

I have lived with another dog before for 3 years (beagle mix), and we are fine together. But it took a few times of us being in the same area to get comfortable with each other. I need a slow, controlled introduction to other dogs. We are at this time looking for a pet free home for Leo.

Say no to rodenticides.

And the fifth bald eagle in Massachusetts has died from rat poison…

Well, the fifth one we know about. On March 13th of this year, a female bald eagle was found dead in Massachusetts. Tufts wildlife clinic confirmed she died of second generation anticoagulant rodenticides.

The bald eagle is supposed to be a protected species in our state. I don’t see anything being done to protect them from this poison…

I will include what you can do bellow.

💔 RIP beautiful Coco

Today I stopped to see Coco three times.

I brought him a huge bone, sat with him, scratched his ears, and told him he was the best dog in all of Maybrook.

Tomorrow at 2:30, his family will make the hardest trip any pet owner ever has to make. I’ll be taking my lunch with them so I can be there as Coco leaves for the last time.

Coco was only 8 years old. He was rescued after being found abandoned in a garbage dumpster in North Carolina. From a dumpster to eight incredible years with a family who loved him beyond words. That’s the part of this story I’ll always remember.

His owners told me he’s been spending more time with them lately, asking for more affection, eating less, and staying close. Somehow, they always seem to know. I truly believe he knows he was loved every single day.

His tumor couldn’t be operated on, and now the kindest gift his family can give him is peace.

Please keep Coco, his family, and UPS driver Fred Farahvashi in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Thank you for showing this sweet boy what love looks like.

Run free, Coco. You were a very good dog, and you’ll never be forgotten. ❤️🐾🙏
