There is so much uncertainty in family building, and one of the harder parts can be feeling your identity shift right in front of you.
The waiting, the uncertainty, the countless decisions… they all shape how you think, cope, and move through the world. Along the way, you may discover strengths you never knew you had, while also grieving parts of yourself that may never be quite the same.
That tension between grief and growth is part of family building, too. You will be changed by it.
We write about these experiences and so much more in the Embra Resource Library. Find more insights and support at the link in our bio.

Go ahead. Give yourself the ribbon.
Some feelings are harder to admit than others.
For intended parents, surrogacy can hold so many emotions at once. There can be profound gratitude for your surrogate, excitement about your growing family, and genuine joy alongside feelings that are much harder to put into words—jealousy, grief, longing, uncertainty, or even feeling left out of an experience you deeply wish you could have had yourself.
You can feel grateful for your surrogate and still wish you were the one feeling the baby move. You can trust and appreciate the person carrying your baby and still have moments when the closeness of that experience brings up complicated feelings.
Having those feelings doesn’t make you selfish, ungrateful, or a bad parent. Feelings aren’t always a reflection of what we believe or how we want to treat someone. Sometimes they’re simply a reflection of what this journey means to us and what we’ve had to give up along the way.
The small win may not be making the feeling disappear.
It may be letting yourself acknowledge it without judging yourself for having it.

A participant’s experience can tell you a lot about an agency.
Not only whether the medical process was handled well, but whether they felt prepared, understood, and supported when things became uncertain.
For agencies, that raises a bigger question: What are you building into your program to help people navigate the parts of the journey you can’t predict?
Because the moments that shape trust often happen outside of the expected plan.
To explore the bigger picture and what this can look like for your agency, read our blog “The ROI of Feeling Supported” by visiting the link in our bio.
Surrogacy is a journey, not a single clearance point.
The needs of intended parents, gestational carriers, and everyone involved can shift throughout the process, especially as relationships develop, milestones happen, and emotions become more complex.
Support shouldn’t be something you receive only at the beginning.
It should be there throughout the journey, when you need it most.
At Embra, we believe emotional support is an essential part of the surrogacy experience, not an afterthought.
Because the journey keeps changing.
And your support should, too.

A psychological evaluation can sound intimidating, but it’s not about giving the “right” answers or proving that you’re ready.
It’s a space to talk openly about your motivations, expectations, emotional well-being, relationships, and how you navigate stress.
At Embra, we believe these conversations should feel thoughtful, supportive, and judgment-free.
Because a psychological evaluation isn’t just about checking a box. It’s an opportunity to feel more informed, prepared, and supported as you move forward.
Have questions about the psychological evaluation process? We’re here to help.

Donation is a deeply personal decision, and it can come with questions, uncertainty, and emotions you may not have expected.
At Embra, we support donors in exploring the emotional and personal side of donation — from understanding your motivations to thinking about the long-term implications of your decision.
Because you deserve space to ask questions, process your feelings, and make a decision that feels right for you.
Whether you’re considering donation, preparing for the process, or looking for support along the way, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Intended parenthood through surrogacy can bring feelings you never expected and may not always feel comfortable admitting.
Sometimes there’s jealousy when your gestational carrier talks about feeling the baby move.
Sometimes there’s grief for the pregnancy experience you imagined having yourself.
Sometimes there’s anxiety when you realize how little of the process you can control.
Sometimes there’s fear that you’ll feel disconnected from your baby.
Sometimes there’s resentment that you may feel guilty for even having.
And sometimes there’s simply the feeling of being left out of an experience that is deeply meaningful to you.
You can feel all of these things and still be deeply grateful for your gestational carrier. You can trust her, appreciate her, and care deeply about her experience while also making space for your own complicated feelings.
The goal isn’t to judge the feeling, suppress it, or convince yourself you shouldn’t feel it. It’s to understand where it comes from, make space for it, and decide how you want to respond.
Because intended parents deserve a space where they don’t have to choose between gratitude and honesty.

This is your sign that you don’t have to earn the right to need support.
You may spend so much of this journey trying to be patient, flexible, understanding, and grateful.
You may tell yourself that you should be handling it better. That someone else has it harder. That you don’t want to ask for too much. That you can get through one more appointment, one more wait, one more uncertainty on your own.
But you don’t have to reach a breaking point before your feelings deserve attention.
You’re allowed to ask for reassurance.
You’re allowed to say, “This is harder than I expected.”
You’re allowed to need someone to sit with you in the uncertainty.
You’re allowed to seek support even when things are going well.
Support isn’t something you have to earn by struggling enough.
Sometimes, asking for support is simply part of taking care of yourself through a journey that matters so deeply to you.

You finally have the baby you worked so hard to bring into the world.
So why can certain moments still feel unexpectedly heavy?
Sometimes the emotions that surface after becoming a parent don’t seem to match the life you finally have.
And that can be confusing, especially when you feel like you should be grateful, relieved, and completely happy.
But you don’t have to immediately understand or fix what you’re feeling. Sometimes it’s worth getting curious about what your experience has left behind.
If you’ve ever thought, “I thought I’d feel different by now,” this one is for you.
We explore the emotional experience behind this in our latest blog:
“I Got the Baby I Wanted. Why Am I Still Sad?”
