Boston Medical Center
Reimagining healthcare and empowering all patients to thrive with our innovative and equitable care. Want to be part of our new model of healthcare?
Boston Medical Center, a proud member of the Boston Medical Center Health System, models a new kind of excellence in healthcare, where innovative and equitable care empowers all patients to thrive. We combine world-class clinicians and cutting-edge treatments with compassionate, quality care that extends beyond our walls. Together, we're reimagining healthcare for Boston—and the world. As an award-winning health equity leader, our diverse clinicians and staff interrogate racial disparities in care and partner with our community to dismantle systemic inequities. This commitment to equity is the basis of all our work, particularly as 70 percent of our patients are people of color. Nearly 30 percent of our patients speak a primary language other than English, and we offer all our care and services in over 160 languages, including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, and more. As an academic medical center, BMC is building the future of healthcare. Our world-renowned researchers currently oversee over 660 research projects in a wide variety of areas, and as the principal teaching affiliate of Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, BMC is devoted to training future generations of healthcare professionals. BMC's clinical expertise, commitment to equity, quality, and sustainability efforts have been consistently recognized by organizations across the country, including the federal government, American Nurses Credentialing Center (Magnet designation), U.S. News, Leapfrog, Human Rights Campaign, the Lown Institute, Becker’s Healthcare, and more. Sickle cell disease is a chronic, genetic blood disorder that makes blood cells misshapen, which can lead to strokes, organ damage, and episodes of agonizing pain. For our patients, it often means countless visits to the hospital.
BMC’s Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease sees over 600 patients each year — from newborns to adults. Expert and compassionate care is the standard for New England's largest sickle center.
Our gene therapy program has been pioneering innovative gene therapy treatments as part of our mission to further clinical care and research for all patients. As Director of Gene Therapy, Dr. Mark Sloan, says:
"We are at a place to cure sickle cell disease."

“Sometimes when you’re in recovery, you feel like you have something to prove, like you have to show everyone that you’re capable and that you’re a good mom.”
Laura Fennelly-Murphy says she has been in recovery for 15 years and “clean” for nine. Throughout that time, the Supporting Our Families through Addiction and Recovery (SOFAR) program at BMC has been a critical support in her life.
During Recovery Month, Laura reminds us that the hardest moments in life doesn't stop you from being a good mother. She tells others "there are people and programs out there that genuinely want to see you and your children succeed."

Behind every milestone is a person who has spent years showing up for patients, communities, and for their colleagues.
Our Service Awards are about celebrating the milestones and the people behind them -- with plenty of energy, laughter, and well-deserved recognition.

This week, we celebrated the people who keep our campus safe, clean, and welcoming for every patient, family, and colleague who walks through our doors — our Environmental Services team.
We held a cookout on Moakley Green and proudly presented the Environmental Services Awards, recognizing colleagues whose care and dedication show up in every space across BMC.
Environmental Services is frontline care. Thank you to every member of the team for the steady difference you make each day.

With grocery prices rising 30 percent over five years and still climbing, putting healthy food on the table is increasingly difficult. During Hunger Action Month, we celebrate BMC programs like Nourishing at Home: Food Boxes that help ensure all families have access to nutritious foods.
Thanks to Wagner Foundation, whose generous gift launched the program, and DoorDash Impact’s Project DASH initiative, we’ve delivered more than 4,500 food boxes to Boston families since 2025. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4dmed5P
We are proud to be part of DoorDash Impact’s milestone in marking 150 million meals delivered nationwide through Project DASH.
