Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the long ongoing work of justice.
It's also a moment to name the impacts that are still unfolding. Black women in the U.S. are 38% more likely to die of breast cancer than their white peers, despite similar screening rates. That gap isn't all medical or biological. It's systemic.
Ellie Fund and the Boston Breast Cancer Coalition are dedicated to closing the gap by removing barriers to treatment. Today, we honor the progress made and recommit to the work still ahead.

Ellie Popkin's neighbors rallied around her during the hardest moments of her 15+ year breast cancer journey. That same spirit lives on in every patient we serve, including Stephanie, who calls the Ellie Fund team her family.
Now, Stephanie gives back to the organization as a dedicated volunteer and shining light in our office and at Ellie Fund events. We are so grateful to have her be part of our Ellie Fund family.

Ellie Popkin was an active member in the Newton community throughout her life. In her spirit, her sons founded Ellie Fund 30 years ago, as a way to provide community support to ANY ONE being treated for breast cancer in Massachusetts. That inclusivity makes patients like Charlie feel welcomed and supported.

More patients reached. More families supported. More impact made. 💗
This May, Ellie Fund provided $212,595 in essential services and supported 191 NEW patients and their families, representing a 55% increase from May 2025.
Growth is more than a number. It means reaching more patients with support that eases financial pressure, reduces logistical stress, and removes barriers to treatment.
Thank you to all of our supporters and partners who make our work possible.
