Then and now. A lot can change in 160 years.

When YW Boston was founded in 1866, Alexander Hamilton Bullock was Governor of Massachusetts.

Today, Massachusetts is led by Governor Maura Healey—the first woman elected governor in the Commonwealth's history and a 2024 YW Boston Academy of Women Achievers honoree.

That's quite a picture of what 160 years can hold.

YW Boston has lived through generations of change while continuing to evolve alongside the community we serve. And throughout our anniversary year, we're looking not only at where we began, but at the people, progress, and possibilities that continue to shape what comes next.

Then. Now. Next.

Join us October 20 for a once-in-a-generation celebration of YW Boston's 160-year legacy—and the future we're building together.

Participants will leave with an expanded network, deeper insight into their personal leadership approach, and resources to support what comes next. Every 160-year story has a beginning. Ours began with 30 women.

In 1866, a gathering in a Boston home marked the beginning of what would become YW Boston—and the first use of the name “YWCA” in the United States.

From that beginning, YW Boston would grow, evolve, and continue serving generations of people across our city.

As we approach our 160th anniversary celebration, we'll be sharing moments from that history—not simply to look back, but to recognize the people, progress, and purpose that have carried this work forward.

160 years later, the story is still being written.

Join us on October 20 for a once-in-a-generation celebration of YW Boston's legacy—and what comes next.
