Unique handmade jewellery. The creative team of 'David Michael' is one that was forged at birth. Twins Michael and David first love was always Art.
The partnership nurtured through shared childhood dreams and aspirations and focused through years of collective work experiences. This passion for Art was focused early on towards Jewellery. Michael still has the memory of sitting at his fathers jewellery bench at the age of four and having his very own tools he was allowed to play with. Moving to Europe as children and seeing their Father work with companies such as Chaumet and Backers & Strauss further developed their love of exquisite jewels and gems. The David Michael creative is driven by a strong connection to nature and the beauty of what surrounds us all, creatures, flowers, plants and other natural forms. A beautiful gem in itself is often enough inspiration for an exquisite creation.
'David Michael' designs and hand makes only a handful of individual pieces each year. Every piece painstakingly created in a private, eco friendly studio, each process completed 'in house', from water colour renderings to microscopic stone setting. Hundreds of hours are lavished on each concept, every detail fully developed, every angle visually explored. Careful attention to detail fits each gem into the completed mosaic of colour fusion or contrast. Each gem placement an hommage to nature itself.

Someone recently asked me if there is a trend for face motifs because I had been featuring them a lot in my sketches, I never think about trends but the question did make me wonder why. I think it’s a further rebellion against the disconnection that digital brings, against artificial anything in favour of something authentic. Maybe it’s about some connection to humanity, I do know I’m attracted to objects made by someone, not something. Recently I carved these little mask elements out of Carrara marble, sculpting a material that has been used by humans for the past five thousand years to express artistic thought and record humanity did put a special kind of smile on my face.

Every year at Easter I eat way too much chocolate and use the extra energy to create an Easter themed painting.
This year when I was thinking about bunnies a Rabbit that haunted my childhood also came to mind, El-ahrairah from the 1978 animated movie Watership Down.
If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it (just be ready to shed a tear)
One of the vivid memories I have is the blood washing across the meadows, so that’s why I chose Montana agate with its blood like streaks, then I also have a stylised sun with its foil rays to depict Lord Frith, the sun.
