Community Servings
Community Servings is a non-profit food + nutrition program providing services in MA and RI.
At 28 weeks pregnant with her first child, Jules was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and referred to Community Servings.
Throughout her pregnancy and the postpartum months, Jules received meals designed to support her health while navigating the challenges of pregnancy and caring for a newborn.
Managing gestational diabetes meant closely monitoring everything she ate, but Jules shared that having medically tailored meals delivered each week made the process "ten times easier." Reflecting on her experience, she said, "I completely believe it now that food is medicine."

🍎🌽 Fresh, seasonal ingredients
This recent Medically Tailored Grocery (MTG) delivery showcased some of the best flavors of the season, featuring produce from Growing Places, a cherry tomato medley from Ward's Berry Farm, and tomato fennel soup from CommonWealth Kitchen.
MTG provides medically appropriate ingredients and recipes, developed and approved by our registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), that empower clients living with chronic illnesses to prepare nourishing meals at home.
In FY26, our MTG program provided more than 521,000 meal equivalents, helping clients across Massachusetts access the nutrition they need to support their health and well-being.
A special thank you to Morrissey Market, our fulfillment partner for the program. 💚

Steve gets ten meals from us every week. Since he started, he needs less insulin and has lost enough weight to put off knee surgery. His favorite is the carrot ginger soup.
Vanessa is in remission from throat cancer and says these meals gave her a second chance.
Today NPR and KFF Health News told their stories, and the story of the research behind them. Patients who received our meals had 31 percent fewer hospitalizations than similar patients who did not.
We know this works. The research proves it. Read the story and step inside our kitchen.
Cost-Saving Medicaid Meal Deliveries Threatened by Cuts, Policy Uncertainty - KFF Health News An experiment to provide meals to some Medicaid recipients shows food can be cost-effective medicine. But even as federal officials tout the power of nutrition, Medicaid budget cuts could lead states to think twice about covering healthy food for sick residents. One has already reconsidered.
