Adult Education & Workforce Development
Helping Greater Boston’s newcomers and jobseekers build skills, stability, and brighter futures.
The YMCA of Greater Boston’s Adult Education & Workforce Development programs empower adults across Greater Boston to learn, work, and thrive. YGB began offering high-quality adult education in 1975 and expanded into workforce development in 1984. Since then, we have supported more than 5,000 adults on pathways to employment and economic mobility through our workforce development programs, which include our Medical Office and Property Management Employment Programs, and our Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship. Through YGB’s International Learning Centers (ILCs) in Boston and Woburn, we have provided English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instruction to more than 32,500 adult English learners and newcomers; helping them build essential language skills, strengthen employment readiness, and integrate into their communities. YGB’s Adult Education & Workforce Development programs seek to advance opportunity, strengthen economic mobility, and uplift Greater Boston’s communities through education, training, and employment.

✨ Connection matters. ✨
Our YMCA of Greater Boston team had an incredible experience at the YMCA General Assembly in New Orleans from September 17-19. For first-time attendee Tatsiana Zarrouki, Education and Career Advisor at the International Learning Center, the biggest takeaway was the power of connection.
Meeting YMCA professionals from across the country, sharing ideas, and learning from one another was a reminder that we're stronger when we grow together.
We're grateful for the inspiring conversations, new connections, and fresh ideas that will help us continue serving our community.

✨ Radical collaboration in action ✨
Today, leaders and partners from across the early childhood and family support sectors gathered for Urban College's Co-Designing Care and Community, a collaborative event focused on strengthening supports for children, families, and educators. 🍎📚
Our YMCA Early Childhood Apprenticeship team joined inspiring conversations on early education, health equity, workforce development, advocacy, and more, while connecting with partners dedicated to creating positive change.
A special thank you to Rachelle Hannoush, M.Ed. and Daliza Nova, MBA from Urban College for their partnership and support of our apprentices. 👏
We're excited to see what comes next! 🎉

Workforce development in action! 💪
Current property management trainees recently participated in a mock inspection led by YMCA program graduates who are now employed by the Boston Housing Authority (BHA).
Graduates from the Classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026 shared real-world insights, industry knowledge, and professional guidance as trainees prepare to enter the field. We are proud to see alumni giving back and helping build the next generation of property management professionals. 👏

🎉 Congratulations to Jadah Williams on becoming an EEC Certified Teacher! 🎉
Just six months after joining our March 2026 Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program cohort, Jadah has achieved this incredible milestone.
Jadah came to the program with a strong foundation, including a bachelor's degree in psychology from Salem State University and valuable experience working as a Behavioral Technician in East Boston. Her prior education and professional experience helped accelerate her certification journey, allowing her to achieve her goal in a remarkably short amount of time.
We are so proud of Jadah's dedication, hard work, and commitment to the children and families she serves every day.
Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved accomplishment! 💙

Mentorship, growth, and full-circle moments! 💙✨
Program Director Maureen Augenstern-Dane recently conducted a site visit at one of our valued employer partners, Little Voices in Hyde Park. These visits allow our leadership team to observe apprentices live in the classroom, offering hands-on instruction and tailored 1:1 management to help them succeed.
During her visit, Maureen spent time with Omari and Kamryn, two new apprentices from our March cohort who are already making an impact in the classroom. The highlight of the visit? A full-circle moment featuring Branai, a graduate of our YMCA Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program who is now serving as a Lead Teacher! Check out Branai posing alongside our newest cohort members. 📚 🎉 😊
💡 Did you know? Partnering with registered apprenticeship programs doesn't just build a strong talent pipeline but, it can also pay off financially! Hiring registered apprentices qualifies many eligible businesses for the Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship Tax Credit (RATC).
