What if you didn’t have to carry it alone?
This December, I’m creating a space to set the backpack down for a little while.
Meeting the Wave is a somatic grief, surf and writing retreat on Maui happening December 8-13, a place to let grief move through the body, onto the page and within a supportive circle.
Because grief comes in waves....so does fear and change. Sometimes, healing begins with learning how to meet the wave instead of bracing against it.
Join me for our Preview Call tomorrow Tuesday, August 25. I’ll share more about the retreat, what the days will hold and how the ocean, body, writing and circle come together.

I finally figured it out
I spent years believing I felt too much. I thought healing meant learning how to feel less.
I was so very wrong.
Healing didn't begin when I stopped feeling. It began when I stopped resisting what I was feeling.
One of the greatest lessons grief has taught me is this: What we resist, persists.
The more I pushed away my sadness, fear and heartbreak, the louder they became. But when I finally gave myself permission to feel...everything changed.
My grief wasn't trying to break me.
It was trying to be witnessed.
Today, I still grieve. I still miss Noah. I still feel just as deeply.
But I no longer see that as something to fix.
I see it as one of the greatest gifts of being human.
Healing isn't about leaving your grief behind.
It's about learning to walk beside it with compassion, presence and love.
For so many of us, healing begins when we stop believing that the goal is to "get over" our loss.
Grief isn't something we leave behind. It is something we learn to carry with greater tenderness, presence and compassion.
Over time, the grief changes and we change too. Our relationship with it changes and slowly, we discover that it's possible to hold both grief and joy in the very same heart.
Meeting the Wave is a somatic grief, surf and writing retreat on Maui, a place to be held in community, to be guided through grief rather than carry it alone, in the water, on the page and in the circle.

Grief comes in waves. It rises when it's ready, moves through you if you let it and leaves something behind when it goes.
This retreat is named for that 'Meeting the Wave' is a somatic grief, surf and writing retreat happening on Maui, where we learn to meet the waves: of grief, of fear, of change.
Through the rhythm of the ocean, the intelligence of your body and the clarity that can come through writing.
Six days. Ten people. Dec 8–13, 2026.
If you've felt the pull toward the water, toward motion, toward something that asks your whole body to show up, trust that.
If you're curious to learn more, I'd love to invite you to a Preview Call happening on Tuesday, August 25.
Come learn more about the retreat, what to expect and how we’ll explore grief through the ocean, movement, writing and community.

The ocean holds without conditions. It receives whatever you bring.
And surfing takes that further. When you're on a board in moving water, the wave doesn't wait for you to be ready.
It asks you to be here, now, completely or it takes you under. That demand is the somatic practice. That demand requires full presence.
For some people, the body needs to move before it can release. It needs the particular demand of the wave, the paddle and the wipeout, before something held deep in the tissue can loosen.
The body on the board is the grief work itself. It just looks like surfing.
At Meeting the Wave, three surf sessions with trauma-informed instructors from Maui Surfer Girls met exactly where you are, never pushed beyond your capacity and if the water is more than you're ready for, the beach and the page are here too.

No matter the shape, size, or timeline of your grief, big or small, it is valid and worthy of being felt. 💛 You are worthy of feeling it.
When we push grief away, discount our experience, or compare it to someone else’s, the pain can grow louder, sometimes showing up in unexpected ways. Comparison creates separation, loneliness, and disconnection.
Take a moment and notice your internal response when I say: Your grief is valid, and worthy of being felt.
