If you’re in need of a hiking buddy - look no further than Rocco 🐾🐶

“He will appreciate lots of opportunities for exercise and enrichment - sure to be an excellent hiking buddy as the weather cools down and the leaves change colors! Rocco can be a bit exuberant at times, so HSBV will only rehome him to a family either without children or with children over the age of 10.“

How to teach your dog to close the cupboard!

Featuring Ziggy 🌈

This is ONE way to teach it but there are many ways ❤️

You can break down any of these steps to smaller steps if your dog struggles.

Prerequisite: your dog knows a hand target

1️⃣ teach a ‘touch’ on the post it note first by putting it on your hand

2️⃣ put post it note on cupboard with your hand behind it then slowly fade the hand

*if your dog starts trying to PAW the cupboard go back to more reps of nose booping the post it note And don’t use the hand behind cupboard as they might be confusing with “paw”

3️⃣ slowly fade the hand out of the equation

4️⃣ reinforce for stronger and stronger boops of the cupboard until they are fully closing it. Start clicking for the cupboard fully closing

Under the ada, service dogs are task trained to assist with a persons disability.

These are NOT reasons to train your dog to be a service dog….

❌ you don’t have to pay for a dog sitter while traveling

❌ accessories to bring with you to the grocery store cause you feel bad crating them

❌ robots who are here to serve you no matter what. Meaning making them do things that are unsafe (like a 30lb dog bracing)

Training a service dog is…

A LOT of work and can take 2 years depending on where you’re starting

Not a last minute spur of the moment decisions

Possible if your dog has the appropriate temperament (going back to dogs aren’t robots) 🤖

Please share if you think you know someone who’d be a great fit for Dusty 💕🐾

You may (or may not have) said this... 🚩

I’ve been dog training for over a decade now (well technically…but I started training full time in 2019), and the phrases that make me wince most are STILL super common🙈

Meaning us trainers still need to keep educating.

Other trainers who are still reading: what’s the red flag phrase that makes you wince the most? Would love to hear what other outdated things you’re still hearing 😣
