Picking a pumpkin? Here’s the secret:
🎃 For carving: Look for those big, bright orange pumpkins labeled carving pumpkins or Jack-o’-lantern pumpkins. They have thinner walls, less flesh, and are easier to cut—but they’re usually not the best for eating.
🍽️ For cooking: Look for pie pumpkins, sugar pumpkins, or baking pumpkins. They’re smaller, heavier for their size, and have thicker, sweeter, smoother flesh. They’re perfect for pumpkin soup, pie, breads, muffins, and even roasting!
👩‍🍳 My chef trick: Pick a pumpkin that feels firm and heavy for its size, with no soft spots, bruises, mold, or cracks. A healthy stem is a bonus!
