The first nationally televised episode of Soul Train hit the airwaves 55 years ago today.

Pam Brown Bryant was the main dance coordinator for the show and was responsible for finding young dancers. Luckily her day job at the Parks Department in LA gave her access to a lot of teenagers.

That’s how she met Soul Train dancer Thelma Davis Martin. They recorded a conversation as part of our Brightness in Black initiative.

In 2008, after years of being single, and going on bad dates, Melissa Nagy decided to look for love online. She matched with a man named Ernest.

They exchanged messages, but before they could plan an actual date they ended up crossing paths in person in an unexpected place.

Ernest and Melissa, now married, told that story to their teenage daughter, Sophie.

Mario García was a child actor in Cuba, who was forced to flee during the Castro Regime under Operation Peter Pan. Adjusting to a new life in the U.S., his career was put to a halt. He recalls his love for acting with his grandson Maximillian García.
