The Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program is part of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service of the Texas A&M System.

We serve more than 600 active youth across Brazos County annually through hands-on learning experiences.

The Family & Community Health project area helps youth develop practical life skills that promote healthy living, personal growth, and community well-being. Through hands-on experiences, members explore topics related to nutrition, wellness, consumer decision-making, creativity, and personal responsibility.

Whether preparing nutritious meals, managing finances, or expressing themselves through design, youth gain confidence and independence that carry into adulthood. This project area encourages 4-H members to live well, lead with purpose, and strengthen the communities they call home.

The Leadership project area helps youth discover their voice, strengthen character, and develop the confidence to lead with purpose. Through experiences in leadership, citizenship, communication, and service, members learn to take initiative, work collaboratively, and make a positive impact in their communities.

Whether speaking before an audience, organizing a service project, exploring career pathways, or learning about global citizenship, youth gain skills that prepare them to lead effectively in any setting. This project area empowers 4-H members to become engaged citizens, compassionate leaders, and lifelong contributors to their communities and the world around them.

The STEM project area encourages curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math. Youth engage in activities that challenge them to design, build, and innovate while learning how STEM concepts apply to everyday life and future careers.

From robotics and rocketry to photography, videography, and computer science, members develop technical skills and critical thinking while working both independently and as part of a team. This project area empowers youth to think like innovators, explore emerging technologies, and discover how STEM drives progress in their communities and beyond.

What a fantastic day of learning, exploring, comparing, and making smart shopping choices!

Our Brazos County 4-H Fashion & Interior Design project members had the opportunity to tour Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply, explore the clothing department, discover current trends, and put their comparison-shopping skills to work.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the wonderful Murdoch’s staff for welcoming our 4-H group, sharing your knowledge, and helping make this an engaging learning experience!

We also want to thank our 4-H parents for getting our members there, supporting their participation, and encouraging them to learn beyond the classroom. National 4-H Week is an annual event celebrated during the first full week of October to promote and raise awareness about the 4-H youth development program in the United States. 4-H is one of the largest youth organizations, focusing on engaging young people in hands-on projects related to agriculture, food & nutrition, fashion, citizenship, leadership, and STEM. πŸ€

4-H is a youth development organization that focuses on empowering young people through hands-on learning and leadership opportunities. Texas 4-H offers a wide range of activities and projects in areas like agriculture, science, technology, engineering, health, and community service. The program is designed for youth ages 8 to 18 and aims to help them develop life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, and leadership.

The Agriculture & Livestock project area gives youth the opportunity to explore all aspects of animal and plant production, including raising and showing livestock to studying animal science, agronomy, and veterinary care.
Through these projects, members learn the fundamentals of animal husbandry, nutrition, genetics, and management while developing lifelong skills in leadership, responsibility, and decision-making.
Whether caring for livestock, growing crops, or competing in judging contests, youth gain practical experience that builds confidence and character. This project area helps young people connect their passion for agriculture with real-world applications, preparing them for future careers in the agricultural industry and beyond.
