SMART Local 71 101: How do I join Local 71? (Just a reminder that this is our new social media series created to answer common questions about who we are, what we do, and the opportunities available through our union! You can check our page to catch up from previous weeks!)

There are multiple paths to becoming a member of SMART Local 71, and the right path depends on your skills, experience, and where you are in your career.

Some members come in as apprentices with little to no construction experience and learn the trade through our five-year apprenticeship program. Others may already have sheet metal or construction experience and come in as a classified worker or journeyperson.

The first step is simple: fill out an online application or reach out to our organizer, Adam Kerr, to learn more about your options.
