Build Promise

Each year, hundreds of pieces of donated tableware come together, each with its own pattern, style, and story, creating a beautiful, one-of-a-kind setting for our Supper in the Street guests. But getting all those pieces ready for Supper, and then cleaned and put away afterward, is no small task!

This year, Kofi, Cornerstone Manor - Buffalo City Mission, and Build Promise stepped up to help with the behind-the-scenes work that makes it all possible.

Their time, energy, and willingness to pitch in are just another example of what makes our community so incredible. We are so grateful to be in the !

Honoring a Life. Restoring Dignity. ❤️

This week, we had the privilege of honoring the life of one of our guests with a memorial and celebration of life service right here at Build Promise.

Every person who walks through our doors is created in the image of God and is worthy of dignity, compassion, and love. We believe that care doesn’t stop at a bed, a meal, or a shower. It means seeing the whole person and honoring their story.

It was a sacred time to remember, to grieve, to celebrate, and to remind one another that every life matters and that God is close to the broken-hearted, offering His comfort and peace.

At Build Promise, we don’t just provide services. We restore dignity. We offer hope. We love people well, all the way home. ❤️

Rest in peace, sweet friend.

We are incredibly grateful to Churches In Action for their incredible generosity through their “Undie Sunday” campaign! 🩲❤️

Because of the generosity of churches and individuals throughout our community, countless men coming through Build Promise, Amy’s Place of Hope will have access to something as simple, yet so essential, as new underwear, socks and personal essentials.

A huge THANK YOU to every church that participated, everyone who donated, and the Churches in Action team for bringing people together around a very practical way to care for our neighbors experiencing housing insecurities.

We are so thankful to be part of a community that continues to show up in meaningful ways.

This morning, we had the opportunity to come alongside another incredible Buffalo nonprofit, Kevin Guest House, after their Supper in the Street fundraiser, Buffalo’s longest dinner table and a beautiful farm-to-table meal.

They needed a place to wash all those dishes… and thankfully, we have an incredible kitchen and facility that we could share! So we were more than happy to help. 😊

It’s not only about building something of our own. It’s about coming alongside others, sharing resources, and figuring out how we can help each other do what we do best.

That’s what community looks like. 💙

If you found us because you saw our commercial on TV, we’re so glad you’re here!

Every day, people walk through our doors carrying stories, struggles, hopes and dreams. Some are looking for a safe place to sleep. Some need a shower, a meal, clean clothes, help navigating resources, or simply someone willing to listen.

And our job is to meet them right where they are.

We believe people deserve dignity, compassion and the opportunity for a fresh start. And we believe our entire community has a role to play in making that possible.

So take a look around our page! You’ll see the amazing people we serve, the volunteers who show up, the community partners who join us, and all the little (and sometimes really big) ways that hope is being built right here in Buffalo.

Look who showed up at Build Promise this week! ❤️

One of my favorite parts of my job is watching people from all walks of life walk through our doors ready to serve.

This week we had our faithful regulars, local high school students, the St. John’s Lutheran youth group, students from UB’s CommunityConnect which connects first year medical students with non-profit work in Buffalo, and students from the Occupational Training Center of Buffalo, just to name a few!

Different ages.
Different backgrounds.
Different experiences.
All coming together to serve our neighbors and remind the men we serve that they matter, their community cares about them, and they are not alone.

***Did you also know that along with our outside volunteers, our guests make up approximately 80% of our total volunteers? It’s an incredible gift to work alongside each other for the common good of the Build Promise community.

To every person and group who gave their time this week, THANK YOU!

Thank you for serving alongside us.
And thank you for believing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

At Build Promise, Amy’s Place of Hope, we’re creating weekly opportunities for our guests and community to grow, learn, and be supported on their journeys.

A huge thank you to KeyBank for meeting our guests right where they’re at and spending the morning helping them build their financial literacy skills.

And thank you to Seven One Six Ministries for investing in our friends and teaching them how to make a great first impression when searching for employment.

It is such a privilege and an honor to partner alongside organizations like these, and so many others who believe in our guests/community and are willing to walk alongside them.
