✨ Meet Eric! ✨

Eric always dreamed of working as a driver in some capacity. Before reaching that goal, he built a strong work history through several positions. He began working with Supported Employment Services after already gaining five years of experience as a dishwasher at Applebee’s. Not long after, Eric expressed interest in a new opportunity and secured a position as a Laundry Aide at Aurora Health Care, where he worked for two years. Following that role, Eric set his sights on working at Wegmans and was hired in floor maintenance. While he enjoyed the job, it was part-time and did not offer opportunities for full-time employment.

In 2024, Eric applied for and was offered a full-time position as a Mail Sorter with Immediate Mailing Services in Depew. This role proved to be a great fit, with ideal hours, a convenient location close to home, and a positive work environment.

Throughout his employment journey, Eric remained focused on his long-term goal of becoming a driver. He was especially drawn to the idea of transporting people and items from one place to another. After two years of strong performance as a Mail Sorter, a full-time Delivery Mail Driver position became available. Thanks to his solid work history and reliability, Eric was offered the role.

Today, Eric begins his day sorting mail for a few hours before transitioning to his delivery route. He drives a mail truck to multiple locations throughout the Buffalo area, picking up and dropping off mail and packages. He finishes his day back in Depew, where he returns the truck and prepares materials for the next day, successfully achieving the goal he has worked toward for years.

As the fall season kicks into full swing, we are also heading into another budget year, meaning it is more important now than ever to understand what the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) system needs.

This year, we are calling for a 3.4% Targeted Inflationary Increase, a CareForce Wage Investment, and the restoration of the Healthcare Enhancement Program.

Together, these investments will help providers retain skilled staff, keep up with rising costs and health care expenses, and ensure that people with I/DD can continue to receive the services and supports they rely on.
