Photos from Mayor Sean M. Ryan's post 09/25/2026

We’re excited to see Mayor Sean M. Ryan’s City of Light initiative, launched with National Grid, kick things off with the replacement of 14 missing streetlight poles along Memorial Drive near the beloved Buffalo Central Terminal.

Thank you, Mayor Ryan, for listening to residents and taking action on an issue that has been a concern in this neighborhood for years.

Investments in neighborhood infrastructure like this are a critical piece of bringing new life to the Buffalo Central Terminal and an important step toward a safer, brighter future for Broadway-Fillmore.

We’re glad to see this progress. šŸ’”

šŸ—ļø Another Broadway-Fillmore staple is entering a new chapter!

Stabilization is officially underway at the former Market Bar on Gibson Street, right across from the Broadway Market. After sitting vacant since a 2017 fire, the longtime neighborhood fixture is getting a new lease on life.

The building, now planned as the Gibson Piano Bar, will feature apartments on the second and third floors, along with a social space on the first floor for arts and community programming.

We’re especially excited about this one because it’s being led by Lindsey Taylor, who also helps curate our community events at the Buffalo Central Terminal. Now, he’s bringing his passion for arts, culture, and community to another Broadway-Fillmore icon.

It’s always exciting to see more investment and activity taking shape in the neighborhood.

Here’s to new chapters for old buildings!

The former Market Bar on Gibson St. has sat vacant since a fire in 2017. Now, new ownership is working to bring the building back to life with apartments and space for arts and community programming.

Look who made the big screen at the Buffalo Bills’ home opener last Thursday at the new stadium!

The Bills featured the Buffalo Central Terminal as part of their ā€œIt’s Timeā€ message marking the end of halftime, showcasing the historic clocks on the iconic tower and inside the Passenger Concourse.

Those clocks have been keeping time for generations. Now, the Central Terminal is entering a new chapter of its own.

And the time is NOW!

Shoutout to the Bills for partnering with us on this one!

Few sights in Western New York match the majestic silhouette of the Buffalo Central Terminal.

The Central Terminal is so much more than just a building to save—it represents hope and possibility for our community and region.

You tell us: Fill in the blank! šŸ‘‡

"To me, the Central Terminal represents ____________."

The Lockport New York Central Train Station on Union Street is officially getting a new lease on life. This 1889 Romanesque landmark was also built for the New York Central Railroad, tying its rich heritage directly to our very own Buffalo Central Terminal.

Our former CTRC Board Chair, architect Paul Lang of Carmina Wood Design, is lending his expertise to help guide its stabilization alongside the owner! In his words, "The Lockport station is obviously very different in scale from the Central Terminal, but it represents another important piece of that same story."

Special architectural treasures like this are what make Western New York’s heritage so rich.

We know that progress takes patience, and we’re thrilled to follow this stabilization journey every step of the way!

If the New York Central Lockport Station could be restored, a wide range of tourism opportunities could fall into place along the Erie Canal. But it's a big "if." ā¤µļø Find a link to the story in the comments.

Did You Know?

When Buffalo Central Terminal opened in 1929, it was one of the largest train stations in the country. The soaring office tower rises 17 stories above the city and was designed to symbolize Buffalo's importance as a transportation hub.

At its peak, thousands of passengers passed through the station every day, connecting Buffalo to destinations across the United States.

Today, thanks to decades of preservation efforts and community support, Buffalo Central Terminal continues its journey toward a new future while honoring its remarkable past.
