It may have been a little cloudy, but members of the Buffalo State community still found some great moments to view today’s partial solar eclipse outside of the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium.

While the eclipse was total across parts of Greenland, Iceland, and Spain, about 16% of the Sun’s disk was covered here in Buffalo at maximum eclipse.

A partial eclipse may not have the dramatic impact of a total eclipse, but it offers an opportunity to pause and connect what we learn about our universe with an experience happening right above us.

The Buffalo State Foundation and Buffalo State Bengals Athletics once again joined forces for the annual Golf Classic.

Thanks to the incredible support of our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and partners, the tournament raised vital funds for student scholarships, financial aid, and support for Buffalo State student-athletes.

Earlier this summer, Buffalo State senior Michaelangelo Hill was named one of three winners of the annual Dr. L. Eudora Pettigrew Women’s History Summer Research Excellence Grants for student researchers.

Michaelangelo was also the recipient of the Vernon Bullough Award for Excellence in Historical Research at the Buffalo State History Department’s Student Awards Ceremony and winner of “Most Effective Foreign Minister” at the 39th annual SUNY Model European Union, both held at Buffalo State in April.

Jason Mazeski was working full-time for the New York City Police Department when he decided to pursue a master’s degree in adult education at Buffalo State. After completing the program, he became the lead curriculum designer for the NYPD’s counterterrorism division, where he developed a one-day active shooter response course, as well as a tourniquet training program that has been given to 30,000 officers.

Four police officers, including Lieutenant William Ginnick of University Police at Buffalo State, were recognized by the North Tonawanda City Council for their response that helped save a teenager’s life after he was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter. Ginnick was off duty at the time of the accident.

“If I’m in a position to help somebody, I’m willing to do that in any moment,” Ginnick said, “regardless of whether the uniforms are on or off.”
