π³ Trees are one of nature's best tools against climate change, and Buffalo's trees are doing their part.
A single mature tree absorbs more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide every year, releasing clean oxygen back into the air. In Buffalo alone, trees filter out 165 metric tons of pollution annually. π
Every tree planted is a step toward a cleaner, cooler Buffalo. Want cleaner air on your block? Request a free street tree at www.buffalotrees.org π³
π³ A great day in the Lovejoy District!
Bryan Bollman joined our Youth Tree Ambassadors from the Youth Guardian Civic Stewardship Summer Program to knock on doors, talk about trees, and invest in the next generation of neighborhood leaders.
The day started with a conversation on civic engagement and leadership at Schiller Park Community Center, then the Councilmember hit the streets with our youth to:
πͺ Canvass the neighborhood and distribute door hangers
π± Educate residents on tree inequity and how to request a FREE tree through Buffalo Street Trees
π§Ή Support cleanup efforts along the route
Big thanks to Bryan Bollman , Ron Dixon , and everyone making this initiative happen. This is what community stewardship looks like.

Meet Sarah Dance π³
Growing up in Buffalo, Sarah remembers neighborhoods full of beautiful homes and thriving trees. As a Tree Ambassador, she's working to bring that back. Sarah chairs the Environmental and Climate Justice committee for the NAACP and is deeply involved in Buffalo's climate and justice communities. For her, trees are about the health and safety of the people who call this city home. π
Fun fact: Sarah played the flute, loves to bowl, and once dreamed of becoming an anesthesiologist! π³πΆ

π³ Myth Busting Monday is here!
Think a tree's roots go as deep as its branches are tall? Think again. Most tree roots grow in the top 1 to 3 feet of soil and can spread 2 to 3 times wider than the canopy. They grow outward, not downward, chasing water, nutrients, and oxygen near the surface.
This is also why trees aren't the real cause of damaged pipes. Roots don't break into healthy infrastructure. They find their way into pipes that are already cracked or leaking, following the moisture that's escaping. The fix is better pipes, not fewer trees.
Protecting the soil around a tree matters just as much as protecting the trunk. π³
