Form and Function Pilates
Form and Function is a reformer Pilates studio in Buffalo, NY.
Located in the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal, Form and Function offers small group reformer Pilates classes aimed at improving strength and flexibility while minimizing joint impact.
Whether it's running, hiking, or navigating the aisles at the grocery store, everybody could use some more hip stability and better balance!
In addition to more classical focused programming, we like to include athletic-style moves to help bridge the gap between the reformer and our day to day lives.

This week we're working on internal and external rotational stability at the hip and knee with some feet in straps variations, and then getting the heart rate up while working on balance and coordination with a standing (mostly) lower body series.
Come try a class! We have Form classes for slower and more thoughtful work, or Function classes for a more brisk experience. Schedule available at the link in the bio!
Whenever I ask people what they'd like to see more of in class, a common request is "more box."
Here we have Pulling Straps 1 and 2 for posterior chain activation, thoracic extension, rotation of the shoulder, and tricep engagement. Also a Knee Stretch and Pike variation for shoulders, chest, and quads, stretching through the lower back and hamstrings. We finish up next to the reformer for a kneeling curl and rotational plank rollout move to polish things off.
This one's been a fun end to class through the holiday weekend! Come check us out! Link to schedule and booking in the bio.
Complete reformer workout from this week in the studio. This one features an early burn in the obliques, some sneaky leg work, and a long sequence in the shoulders and arms.
We'll be running something similar during this week's Function classes if you want to try it out yourself! Link for the class schedule in bio

A great example of how springs on the reformer can be used for both resistance AND assistance. With heavier springs loaded, this standing position works the muscles responsible for stabilization and movement outside of the hip. With lighter springs this becomes a challenging exercise for the inner thigh muscles as they engage to prevent the moving carriage from opening the legs to a full split. Sneaky challenging in both directions!
